SGB Championship 2025 - Confirmed Signings
RoundTheBoards replied to Kerryxo's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Not sure what you're smoking, but it must be strong stuff. -
He was also behind a Rye House revival that went t1ts up and had to be bailed out by Len Silver at a considerable financial cost. And also behind the 2002 revival of Wimbledon that also went sour within a few months, as he fell out with his business partner. (Norbold may be able to tell you more. Wonder if Norbold ever got paid?) The aforementioned business partner later got a criminal conviction for fencing laptops and computers stolen from the army. He also recently had a bit of a falling out with the Iwade owners, and as you say there was the "pie in the sky" Norwich showboating, I'd love to see Mildenhall back. One of my favourite places despite the often "unpredictable" track. But I'd be careful who they get into bed with.

Can't see anything crazy in his response. Seems very straightforward and easy to understand., -

My guess of 3 weeks ago wasn't a bad guess then.

SGB Championship 2025 - Confirmed Signings
RoundTheBoards replied to Kerryxo's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Really don't know what you're struggling with. Riders are signed by clubs, and once contracts are signed and a press release is made to confirm the signing, they are added to the club's list of signed riders. Once a club has signed 7 riders, they have to be submitted to BSP Ltd, and ratified as a legal 1-7. -
Got it in one.

Oh dear.

SGB Championship - 2025 Predictions

Just to say - You're wrong -
Which one are you suggesting isn't any good?
-
Yes, I recall this the same way as you. I believe it was Dave Lanning's idea for the club to place a bet on themselves as a publicity stunt, with the money shared out if they won. The bet came in and the Promotion and the riders got paid a share, but Dave Lanning didn't, and he had to later sue the club (or at least threaten to sue) for his share. Even back in those more prosperous times, there was no prize money for winning the league.

I thought it was an explanation that most people of above average intelligence would understand, but obviously not everybody

If I go on a TV quiz show and win a trip to Las Vegas for the family, that's a prize. If I pay to take my family to Las Vegas, that's just a holiday. Other than a trophy, there is no prize for the 2nd division winners in Speedway, but Poole did take their riders on a holiday. Hope that helps explain.

Grand Prix Ticket Sales
RoundTheBoards replied to Beercellar1966's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Yep. And a difference of just 0.2 inches of rainfall between Manchester in June and Wroclaw in August. -

Marginally. 2.6 inches in Manchester 2.4 inches in Wroclaw. -
These days people would complain about a Wembley final. Wembley has no roof and it always rains in London. Also there's nothing to do around Wembley and it's too far from London, so you can't walk it from Buckingham Palace or Downing Street.
-
Cardiff is actually the wettest city in Britain, so it's a good job they have the roof. Manchester is actually quite a way down the list.

Maybe we should have these confirmed managerial signings on the "2025 confirmed signings" thread? Then the Clerks of the Course and the tea-lady? It would give us chance to start more interesting winter rumours like "My good sources say Simon Stead leaves Sheffield management job to become Kent tealady"

Wouldn't most clubs illustrate an article, revealing a team of young riders, with a photo of one of the young riders? After all, they're the important ones. Maybe the No.1 or skipper?
