Bydgoszcz
sjw ministerofport replied to beercellar's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Czesc just wondered if any of you know a site where i could look at a street map of Bydgoszcz. We are staying in Warsaw on friday night, i wish now we had booked a hotel in Bygoszcz, looks like we will miss the practice and the friday night meet up. Dziekuje -
I like the idea of a big Sunday meeting with the kids going in free and the airhorns. It would be nice to have a qualifying system so that all three league riders have a chance of qualification. Make it an all afternoon part evening meeting. I like the idea of the top two getting automatic wild card places for the GP. How about three new bikes one each for the first three riders. And how about the BSPA paying the winner an extra £50 a point for all the rest of his British meetings for his reign as champ.

Hans Andersen
sjw ministerofport replied to SCB's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Lets take a look at Hans Anderson, he uses his elbows as much as he can to slow his opponants, he closes the door not alowing any room for the rider on the outside, he is arrogant in his interviews and spoils race meetings by pulling of childish tricks what a star. And some fans have the nerve to compare hime with Niki. There is no comparison Niki might get things wrong sometimes but no way is he so arrogant as Anderson, and Anderson will never be World Champion because he isn't good enough. -
well done the danes

i have to admit that i expected some of the Danes to try rough tactics but was so pleased to see that they won fairly. They fully deserve a medal but not the gold that is going to team GB. -
Team GB for the Final
sjw ministerofport replied to Star Lady's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I just hope the team remains the same, they had the passion and determination to win. Lee has the scope for improvement, and maybe Garry rides Poole better than Joe but i don't think he would be able to put any more effort into the meeting than Joe did at Eastbourne. -

i thought the Brit boys were great. If they show so much pride and conviction on Saturday i think they will win. -

Yes Joanne i have got comfirmation of our tickets, and have asked LlyodsTsb how much to send a money order. The immediate one costs £19 and the five day one costs £13 so i will send it on the five day one. Seems like the banks are all more or less the same. -

Have recieved an e-mail and have been told that the translation of the site should be ready by next week. -
Thanks Grachan for the clips. Im almost sure that in my teens when at Coventry one night one of the then Japanese riders paid a visit and my mates and i met him, i seem to remember he had a mouth full of gold caps and fillings, i can't remember his name. The problem was he seemed to understand the black country lingo better than we could understand Japanese

The 19 July hope there are some seats left. I have to get seats because my wife can't stand she is waiting to have a knee replacement op. We have everything booked flights and hotels. So we are crossing our fingers to hope that things fall into place as we will obviously have to cancel if she has her op close to the GP but there is always next year. -
I have been waiting for the tickets to come on sale, now they are but the site is not yet in English. Is there any where else i can buy tickets from.

Just a mention about Hall Green my mother lived opposite the stadium and Grandfather used to sell programs there. So i think there were many houses there when the speedway was running.

Is it my imagination or are some riders now using any tactics they can to win races. Hans Andersen stated that you don't win by being nice, so more elbows are used, riders leave their opponents no room at all, and others drop their bikes at the slightest of touches. I have watched speedway for thirty years and have seen hard riding and hard riders, but now it seems that win at all costs riders seem to be bringing their tricks into use.

GP improvements?
sjw ministerofport replied to sandman's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Yes Sandman i like some of your ideas and agree that Speedway needs to be pushed forward there seems to be little advertisment for big meetings. Cradley were lucky enough to get Bruce Penhall years ago and not only did he boost the gate he was also reckognised away from the sport. We need showmen as well as riders. Love him or hate him Nicki P is a showman he brings out the passion in people one way or another. Your idea of showing what goes on behind the scenes meeting a riders family building up a greater picture is spot on. Look what happened with Floppy he made the Cardiff GP so special that could have been used to push speedway forward. -
World Cup
sjw ministerofport replied to SNoB147's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I agree that it is team Great Britian and that the union flag is correct but can't see the problem with waving an English, Scottish or Welsh flag. I think think the idea of keeping the flags flying in Poole and Eastbourne and other places is a great idea, any advertisment would be good. It would be wonderful to see a Welsh rider in the Cardiff GP in the next few years. -
The chances are that an arm chair view of a GP or Elite league speedway meeting is the first contact that the general public will get of our sport. Why is there not more focus on advertising the different speedway tracks around the country. I am sure that it is in the interest of Sky TV as well as the clubs to entice new fans to all of the tracks. Whether a league meeting or a GP the presenters could help, for instance a league meeting that is being covered, they could mention both teams next fixture and so on. The GP's could ask the riders more about their league clubs and how good the racing is. Anything to spread the word.

I have a vague memory of a Wembley World Final,I'm sure Phil rode for Newport, i think the track staff started to water the track before each ofthe riders had had their first ride some of the Newport fans got upset and took the fire hose off the track staff and turned it on them and a couple of police men and other officials. It was all taken in good spirits at the time.
