Czesc Lawrence, Me thinks your previous comment is being brought up. Rico

We stayed in the Ratuszowy back in 2000. Not the plushest hotel in the world, but it was ok. If, per F4E's e-mail, you can't get in the Brda, book the Ratuszowy and you can still try one of the good hotels late on. Rico
-
Wouldn't go as far as recommending the Brda Rob, but at this stage of the day it's probably the best you will get booked into. Pod Orlem and City Hotel usually have rooms available once the organisers have confirmed their requirements, but that's not usually till the last minute. My advice would be to book the Brda and try one of the others late on. Rico

Plenty of websites out there will give you seasonal weather info/history if you look for them. Try wunderground. Bear in mind the query is built on Riga, not Daugavpils for the period 1st to 16th September. Rico

Bonnie Tyler At Cardiff
Rico replied to shortoi's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
You'll be in the stadium at least an hour before Ms Tyler starts her set young Tommy. I certainly won't be after her autograph though. I'd suggest you do get ear defenders for Cardiff though Rico -
I've only stayed in the Radisson (really lovely hotel, but so it should be with 5*s) and the Mercure Panorama (nothing special, but comfortable enough). Only problem with the Radisson is that last time I heard someone checking the price it was quite expensive, compared to the rate we managed to get ourselves. I haven't heard anyone say anything bad about any of the hotels in Wroclaw and quite a few have been mentioned at various points on this forum. Rico

@ Subedei Just to put your mind at ease, I can confirm that Wanda would not have featured. Rico -

It is looking fairly positive if the news story on Speedwayworld.tv is correct, which I have no reason to doubt. THE Polish Motor Federation have decided that ten teams will be allowed to compete in the Second Division. Three clubs are from abroad. Speedway Centr Daugavpils, Miskolc Speedway SE and Ukraina Rowne are those three teams. The precedent was set in 2004, when Lvov from Ukraine were invited to compete in Polish Division. Since then clubs, especially from Eastern countries, are very keen to ride in Poland. Not all Polish speedway authorities stand by this idea, due to high travel costs. Teams from Gdansk and Krakow were also granted a license to ride in the Second Division in 2006. This is a controversial decision, as this second club goes bankrupt almost every season… Rico -

The day I take behavioural lessons from you in Wroclaw will be the day I give up GP jaunts But yes you have a valid point !! Angry ?? Can understand Nikki wanting to go back, it's such a brilliant place. Lovely day here Tommy , the sun is shining and it is very pleasant indeed. You get worse winters there, but better summers. Can't have it all. 7 weeks today till we fly out to Krakow, but hey who's counting !! Rico -
2006 World Championship
Rico replied to Alun Chapple's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Keep taking the pills Ewa For what it's worth, my predicted top 8 is 1) Tony Rickardsson - will cement his deserved place in the history books 2) Nicki Pedersen - I expect the bad lad to score well this year 3) Jason Crump - will soon realise he can't compete with tRick again this year 4) Leigh Adams - another consistent year 5) Jaroslaw Hampel - big breakthrough year for Jarek and hopefully he will win a GP 6) Tomasz Gollob - still got some big scores in him 7) Scott Nicholls - finally Nicholls will make a few Finals 8) Andreas Jonsson - it's another tough year in the GPs but I expect AJ to hold his own. Hancock and Bjarne P to fall out of the top 8. Rico -

Don't think I have actually flown into Poznan MK, Papa B most certainly has and I am sure he will come up with a definitive answer. The Poznan Airport site suggests it is only 7km to the city centre, so it shouldn't be too much in a taxi, but there is the option of a couple of buses listed on the site. Rico -
Hopefully a fellow Monarch can clarify this somewhat hazy info that is coming from my memory banks. I am sure Monarchs beat Boston 63-14 in a league match circa 1978, with the only dropped points by a Monarch being someone falling off in one race. Any further info would be appreciated. I remember being very upset at the time of the fall as I thought I was about to witness a historical moment. Rico

Trip To Wroclaw For Grand Prix
Rico replied to barrylyn's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Good luck with this venture. Nice to see some competition going on. Rico -
Perfectly good train service between Poznan and Wroclaw that only takes around a couple of hours. A good deal cheaper (and safer) than hiring a car for the trip. Rico
-
Am certainly finding it difficult to post with just my one spare hand at the moment Rico

I really don't think you need an organised tour to go to Wroclaw Addy. Go to the Ryanair site, book a flight, book a hotel, sorted. Certainly one of the easiest to sort out. Just a question of being prepared to book at the right time. Rico

You must give me details of your optician Canadian Star. Seems like you can see quite a distance. The fact you have left Matt Ford out of the equation is laughable Rico

We have visited Krakow many times in the past and love it, however we thought by trying to catch a Wanda match so early in the season that they'd surely still be open. And this year they don't open at all As I said, we are still considering things, but will let you know if we do intend to come to Tarnow. Rico
-
If you know it's not the right place, why do it ? There is a big old section for SGP and SWC. I am sure once Reading are in their spanking new stadium it will be a much more suitable venue for hosting events like the SWC. I don't for one minute think that Smallmead in it's current state is fit for the holding of such a presigious event, but I am sure it will get a good crowd in and make for good tv. As for switching the British GP, don't make me laugh. Rico

Where is the "bites tongue" emoticon ? Just wait till I see you next Addy. Rico

My travelling companion HenryW appears to have similar reservations to myself about this one. Krakow really is wonderful and it's the only night of the year I will have time there, so to go to Tarnow means sacrificing a large part of potential Krakow time. Further time to consider this is definitely required. Rico

Damned tasty they were too. I have had pierogi in a restaurant before and wasn't too fussed for them. I cooked these at home with some pepper and onion and they were much tastier. I think I prefer them lightly fried as opposed to boiled, which the restaurant ones were. It's under consideration Leliwa. We haven't been to Tarnow before and it would be good to see Tomek Gollob, Kolodziej and all the rest in action on their home track. Will let you know what comes of from discussions here and will certainly be up for some beers if it comes off. Rico

Trams go right from the town centre to the stadium, can't remember the numbers right now, but am sure someone will know them off the top of their heads. Hotels in Wroclaw are listed on www.wroclaw.pl. As you will see from this thread there are people staying in various ones. Personally staying in the Radisson, which is lovely, but I haven't heard a bad thing about any of the others. Plenty of speedway fans milling around the bars in town after. Rico
-
Don't think you can get any closer than this one. It is behind bends 1 and 2 of the track and within the stadium complex. There is another hotel not far from the gates at the entrance to the stadium complex, but despite having had a beer in there I can't recall the name of it. By staying there you will of course be a) removing the fun and feisty tram journey back into town and b ) denying yourselves the pleasure of Saturday night in the beautiful Wroclaw town centre. Rico
