The main reason there are not that many British riders making the jump to EL standard these days is because the PL decided to bring foreign riders into the league back in about 89/90 (well done Rye House)......Before that teams in the NL,as it was called then, were made up of British and a few commonwealth riders (Aussies,Kiwi's and the occasional Canadian). Ever since the flood gates have opened for all EU riders to ride in the PL, the amount of emerging British riders who have emerged that are good enough to go on to be world class has dwindled rapidly, as everyone can see. The last time GB won the World Cup was 1989......Which was exactly the same time as non commonwealth riders were allowed to ride in the NL/PL.......So is this just a coincidence?? I personally think not.

I personally don't think Neil is that good a team manager at Poole either........, How many times has he let a rider who has scored three last places, take his fourth programmed ride instead of replacing him with a reserve who IS scoring points....last season he did it virtually every week with Masters and Kling...Bet Rosco or Havvy (just to use them as an example) wouldn't !!!

The trouble with Starman is, you mustn't say anything bad about Matt Ford or Neil Middleditch as he will jump to their defence at the drop of a hat even if they are 100% wrong....Why?? Because he might lose his job as Speedway Star seller and general dogsbody at Poole stadium.....Lets just say his nose is very dark in colour!!!!! -

That track was awful tonight. Bumpy on turn one and a gaters paradise, just right for the Danes!! Surely there is a better track to ride the GB round on that would give GB a bit of home track advantage unlike Kings Lynn which gave all home advantage to the Danes with one current and two former Kings Lynn riders in their side!!!! -
Hancock And Gollob When Will They Retire ?
scottyfan replied to racers and royals's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Probably Mr Pearson and Mr Tatum talking nonsense as usual, as I think they may have mentioned something about it during one of the GPs last year. -
Hancock And Gollob When Will They Retire ?

But was it not said that Gollob was going to make a big announcement but it never happened?? -

I wouldn't be surprised to see Gollob retire at the end of this season. I think he was going to either retire from the GPs or from speedway at the end of last season but changed his mind at the last minute. -

First Brit To Win A World Championship.
scottyfan replied to Mad Potter 2's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Peter Craven,Peter Collins,Michael Lee,Gary Havelock,Mark Loram etc. not exist then in the daily mirror's world??.........even if they are trying to say the first Brit to win a Grand Prix series they would be wrong as that honour belongs to Mark Loram!!!! -
Gary Havelock has tweeted that due to his arm injuries he has officially retired from speedway racing. All the best for the future Gary. You'll always be a Legend at Poole.

Speedway Attendances At Brandon
scottyfan replied to brandonmole's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Remember the Lakeside v Poole match a couple of seasons ago when the admission was free for the live Sky match?? The place was packed out and even Middlo had trouble getting into the stadium because of the tail backs!! Surely that told the promoters that if the admission prices were set at a reasonable rate (say £5) then the fans would still come and watch and they would still make there money by getting more people in for less money......at £17 pounds plus in this economic climate they won't!! -
Are you sure you don't mean Sean Maguire?? I believe he was having a go after a meeting on Simon Wigg's bike?? and came off and broke his leg....not sure what track it was at though.....I think it was about the time of the Ricky Butcher speedway story on Eastenders and a few of the actors started having a go at speedway?? When he broke his leg the tv bosses put a stop to it?? I think that was it.....long time ago now, so not 100% sure.

It was about mid 90's and Troy Pratt was the rider that was acting as Ricky.

Isn't it Poole Council that charge for the car park??
