Quite right Humph. You could bet your granny's bottom that a standard works Jawa rider would be quicker than young Brendan Bottomly's standard Jawa at Scunthorpe. The reason is before every engine leaves the factory it will get tested under controlled conditions and the better ones will be filtered out. You could even engineer a slightly quicker engine and seal it and still keep within the rules. Purely by choosing and matching parts within a closer tolerance band. This though only applies to very few engines, in general though most will be quite similar.

OEM = Original Equipment Manufacture or Manufacturer. No the riders own as many as they want... hopefully they would only ever need one and maybe one as a back up per season.
-
Ideally like normal box standard engines, they are 20x more reliable so apart from changing external components internals remain OEM untouched.

The four wheeled kind, some types of car competitions for example race box standard 1.0L VW Polo's. It's very close stuff, the only way they can pass is by forcing their way through. Couldn't do that in speedway obviously. The sealed bit is tough, but other sports use some kind of item that would break when the engine is broken apart (like a unique coloured wax seal). Also the engine and security type bolts could be sprayed a colour to reveal scratch marks if tools have attacked it. They'd have to work with the manufacturer of course, but there are ways to stop it and in all purposes, if a rider was two seconds per race quicker than everyone else....... the machine examiner would pay a visit.

Personally I feel it would bring out ability rather than the one with the richest parents from the off. Those who's parents are on a lower income could compete on the same level. Above all it could bring down riders wages and make speedway cheaper, with no net loss to either promoter or rider. Plenty of other sports have standard out of the box classes with limited tuning rules, speedway has some but prefers to line the pockets of expensive aftermarket parts and expensive tuners. Not sure it would improve the racing, would definitely slow them down I guess.

Box standard sealed engines for league speedway. Individuals and internationals tune to as much as you can afford.

I think some people watch too much speedway on tele. The alternative, is turn it off or best still go and pay the admission price and petrol and go and watch it live. You do have a choice. -

Of course. The world cup isn't the place for testing new blood to replace aging stock, but what other opportunites are the BSPA exploring to cover the gaps. The GP scene is one, testing Wild Cards at Cardiff and arranging test matches, the later probably difficult these days with rider commitments etc. I'm sure we all agree that they should do more. There just might be riders out there now, like in the past that flourish riding for Team GB. Naff at individual level, but like Danny King stepped up to the plate under pressure.. not a world star admittedly, but capable all the same. How will we flush out these riders? Peterborough was that opportunity, a classic example was it Phil Brown (the name escapes me) the 4x400 metre relay runner, not really that good as an individual runner, but as a team runner under real pressure.... completely world class. I'm sure there are British speedway equivalents to. -

Can you just answer me this one question me old whooooosher . Would using the best riders Britain have available at the moment, taken us straight through to the world cup final? If your answer is no.... what was wrong in using the riders Lyons selected as it would have mean't going to the race off anyway. -

I'm sorry but your posts are pretty lame. Fans want their league team to win to do this they put out the strongest team, which means fielding Aussie's and Europeans as there are no decent Brits. The very same fans have the gall to criticise selectors when there are no decent Brits to track other than the usual "old crusties" as someone said. Fielding the same old team year in year out is not getting us anywhere. I notice you have no avatar, which suggests you are just a mere critic, possibly a failed journalist rather than a "true" fan with heart. -

Just what we need for Poland? whoosh.... I'm glad Lyons ran the team he did, at least it's pulled another couple of riders into the mix for the race off. -

The Direction That Speedway Needs To Take In The U.k.
Deano replied to Bee's topic in 'The Way Ahead'
The issue I have with this is you are in affect asking the bigger Premier League to break up and support the shrinking Elite League with three of their teams? I would actually prefer one big league and throw all teams into the mix, rather than to what appears to be taking away the bigger Premier league tracks that are our crowd pullers. I agree through some very good pointers. Well done.
