Slovenia Gp - The Draw

I only cut and paste from Speedwayworld - just in case people thought it was me!!!! -
SLOVENIAN GRAND PRIX, Krsko MATEJ Zagar has been handed the Wild Card nomination for the first Grand Prix of the season at Krsko on April 26. The Slovenian star will be going all-out to prove that his absence from the series as a full-time rider is a temporary one, having lost his place at the end of last season - and, of course, he is a track expert at his home circuit. The race for the 2008 World Championship promises to get off to an explosive start, with World Champion Nicki Pedersen opening the defence of his title in Heat 3 against former runners-up Greg Hancock and Tomasz Gollob, and exciting young Swede Fredrik Lindgren. The opening heat also promises to be spectacular as it features current World No.2 Leigh Adams, who goes up against Scott Nicholls, Rune Holta and series newcomer Krzysztof Kasprzak. Home riders Isak Santej and Jernej Kolenko have been nominated as track reserves for the event. The full draw is as follows: Saturday April 26 - 1900 CET 1 (7) Rune Holta (Poland) 2 (14) Krzysztof Kasprzak (Poland) 3 (8) Scott Nicholls (GB) 4 (2) Leigh Adams (Australia) 5 (11) Bjarne Pedersen (Denmark) 6 (9) Chris Harris (GB) 7 (13) Lukas Dryml (Czech Republic) 8 (10) Andreas Jonsson (Poland) 9 (4) Tomasz Gollob (Poland) 10 (6) Greg Hancock (USA) 11 (1) Nicki Pedersen (Denmark) 12 (15) Fredrik Lindgren (Sweden) 13 (16) Matej Zagar (Slovenia) 14 (12) Niels-Kristian Iversen (Denmark) 15 (5) Hans Andersen (Denmark) 16 (3) Jason Crump (Australia) 17 (17) Isak Santej (Slovenia) 18 (18) Jernej Kolenko (Slovenia) FIM Jury President: W.Glas (Germany) FIM Referee: A.Steele (GB) Source - Speedway world

started to get things sorted for this trip. Im okay on the currency for Slovenia as that appears to be Euro's but as we are flying into Zagreb it appears the currency in Croatia is the Kuna. The only time I think we will need money in Croatia is at the airport to buy drinks once through customs etc, or if we get delayed airside. (If its landside then the ATM's will take a hit) Anyone know if they take both in the airport - Kuna and Euros? thanks -

Definately Andy. I can obviously see it from Rory's side, and I know how down the line he was when he wrote to the MA way back in 2007 but I can also understand it from those that took part. But I was aware that Cam W wasnt interested in the Quals but to him the Aus series was the important thing. We knew that Roo may not be taking part and accepted that. It seems to have taken forever for the MA to make this decision and that in itself is re-assuring. Maybe they wanted to discuss fully with the riders who took part what they wanted and to make a full and qualified decision. Now all the boy has to do is bloomin well qualify - I already have my place booked on the coach for the Qualifier, the day after Bdgoszcz GP!! (No pressure!!)
-
Hi Andy, it was never a done deal. Im not going to go into the full story as Rory and his family can do that if they want to but nothing was pre-arranged. He had to make an application to ride in the qualifiers, which he did at the appropriate time and it has only been recently that the MA have made their decision. He knew he was taking a big chance and for the sake of his family he was willing to make the decision. But I do have a question for the likes of BFD and co - The guys compete in the Australian Motorcycle Speedway Championship Series not the Australian GP Qualifier series. Is there something in the rule book / the MA procedures that states how it all works. I do feel for the guys who rode but maybe, they are all in agreement about their ability and there capability, mentally and financially of competing in the qualifiers.
-
And the problem with that is??? Had both my kids by then - and by the way - its not Rory thats actually having a baby so I dont think the midwives will worry too much about his age!!!
-
Junior, you say didnt bother to ride!! Im sure you know then just how much it costs to cargo out two bikes, purchase a minimum of two airline tickets, buy a house, prepare for having a baby and live day to day. Sometimes the money just wont stretch to everything. Maybe he should have decided he was British (yer - I know he would NEVER have considered that!!), as its not so expensive is it. Its not just that simple - not bothering - and he knew he took the chance of not having a qualifier spot - but financially 2008 was a no-go. Look out 2009 though!!!!
-
Have a chat to Cam, junior fan, you may understand it a bit better after that. And if I believe correcly a few years ago Leigh Adams, for what ever reason didnt ride the Aussie Series and through proper channels was awarded a qualifying place. (At least I think it was Leigh).

Try here This is where we and may others will be staying. Flying into Zagreb. -
You need to wait for Rico to get on line and find this thread. The Big-Josh trips are the best. We are doing the Rico's Rollercoaster Road travel trip on the Sunday!! Last year we did the Under 21's (?) and the year before a league meeting. The passion is unbelieveable and the entertainment out of the stadium is also brilliant. You will have an awsome time.
