There's a common misconception that all that's required is a change of licence - in this case, from Danish to British. But it's not. Holta rode for Poland because Holta is a Polish citizen. Andersen would need to become a British citizen to qualify to ride for Team GB.

Andreas Jonsson so rarely lets me down. But I didn't expect to hit the dizzy heights of third. But, then again, always generous odds for Jonsson. Dick Barrie was writing something similar in a recent Berwick programme - basically that a second-hand bike would suffice, until it was determined whether the youngster had any talent. Barrie had apparently seen a youngster, not contracted to any team, with sponsored brand new equipment, including van.

It all looked like hard, fair riding in Ht 6 to me - watching on television. Stead looked bewildered, befuddled and out of his depth. The truth is he's just not GP standard and never, ever will be. Sure, he picked up a few points when the track was at its worst and riders were losing their heads. On a decent track, I think he'd have been lucky to get a point.

They look a damn sight poorer without him. However, when all's said and done, it was good to see Rybnik finally winning a meeting. Should give their fans something to cheer about. And Smolinski and Szombierski have done very well for the "no-hopers", while Gafurov and Povazhny have had their moments. Good to see dear old Jacek in amongst the points again. But I sense all is not well within the Tarnow camp.

Well, Middlo will have to hope young Nicholls gets on an awful lot better than he did at Rybnik yesterday - he scored a puny 2+1 from 5 rides. Still, a good job Team GB are in the Polish qualifier. I don't think they'd make it through the Swedish one.

And, since I'm so generous, here it is: "Yes, Ferjan is in the Slovenian squad, but I think it's very unlikely that he will actually ride in Miskolc tommorow. It's a long story, but I'll try to make it short. Ferjan said that he will ride for either Slovenia or Hungary, but he let slovenian and hungarian federations to discuss this issue and decide where he will ride. Hungarian federation informed Slovenian federation this week that Ferjan does not have hungarian passport, therefore he can't ride for Hungary. This means that he can only ride for Slovenia. A few weeks ago Ferjan apparently agreed to ride for Slovenia, but on thursday when my colleague contacted him, Ferjan said that he can only ride for Slovenia if Slovenian federation gets a written permission from Ferjan's hungarian club Simon & Wolf from Debrecen. This was obviously a big surprise for everyone including slovenian authorities. Nevertheless, Slovenian team will be waiting for Ferjan to arrive to Miskolc for today's practice. They have a riding licence ready for him and if he wants to ride for Slovenia, he will have a chance to do that. But, as I said before, I doubt that this will happen. Ferjan's polish club KM Ostrow announced Ferjan in their team for today's polish 1st league meeting in Gniezno."

So, what are the events looking like team-wise for Poland and Sweden. Because the USA could be a spoiler for Team GB.
