Yes Bob, I do go to the "open" at Owego once in a while but the 12 hour round trip is not exciting! There are three tracks now in New York state, Owego, Greene and Cuddebackville......Owego being the closest!!! As "Chunky" states speedwaybikes.com is your best bet for schedules.

There was it seems, a huge turnout for this meeting. The riders were paid half in dollars and half in pesos....

There was a speedway meeting at the Youth Sports Arena in Tijuana in 1969. I know this did happen as my friend has a programme from the event.

Yes they have made some rules complicated but at least the "silliest" one's are in the National Trophy.

Ray Duggan was killed along with Norman Clay in the same race in 1950 in Sydney. Eddie Rigg was in the same crash that took Ken's life but Eddie died much later....not sure what year.

Saw him ride many times, mostly at New Cross....quite the character....and as someone said earlier, would make a good film about his life.

You are correct Bob...Ernie never got married and lived with his Mother until she died. But he sure loved his Speedway.

Actually I think it was the Speedway Touring Club......I went on several trips with them...1965 to Kempten and 1966 Ullevi were two. I knew Ernie personally and actually his Mother........I have heard that all the paper stuff he had, programmes etc were full of mildew and worthless and the way Ernie used to store the stuff I can quite believe it. Still a big loss though!

My Mother and Father were there too......and for the Memorial Service......Must have been a very sad time for all Speedway. My parents continued to go four or five times a week and of course take me to New Cross when they reopened in 1959.

In my older programmes, it was always....almost without exception, printed in the programme about abandonment prior to heat 6....

I have used Microsoft Excel for years......there is so much you can do with it. Adding notes ie score chart, results etc etc etc.
