Watched the film last night. Interesting comment that Dirk Bogarde (as a top rider) stated he earned £90 per week which is equivalent to £1500 in todays money. Nothing extortionate, but they were getting crowds of up to 30,000. I bet today's promoters wish they could go back 60 years in time

Simple answer. If he scores heat leader points he gets heat leader pay. If he scores second string points he gets second string pay and if he scores reserve points he gets reserve pay. Simple conclusion - score heat leader points all the time and you will be quids in. What better incentive....
