Getting increasingly disillusioned with the Speedway Star. Take today's issue dated September 14, 2024. I had to bypass 15 pages of GP news before getting to British Speedway news Being increasingly disconnected from the relatively closed shop, increasingly dull, one horse race Grand Prix series, I don't read 90% of the GP write ups. I don't have anything against Bartoz Zmarzlik. If he can knock up 6 to 10 world titles, because he has no decent consistent opposition, good luck to the lad, but that sort of set up is not for me. I have always said that sport is all about competition, if there is no competition then there is no point in it, as far as I am concerned. And that goes for any sport you want to name. I find it strange that there are 2 columns (page 8 and 9) called the 'GP Fan Watch' printing the 'on line views of supporters'!!! I don't understand why I should be paying £3:40 to read things that I have read for free on forums. I don't see the point of the Kelvin Tatum/Chris Louis interactions from the commentary box. Why would I want to pay £3:40 to read what Tatum/Louis when I heard them say it on TV. Pages 14 and 15 were taken up with the SGP2 a meeting with minimal British involvement and therefore of minimal interest to myself. Most of the riders taking part unknown to me Then it is British Speedway news from page 16 to 37 followed by 5 pages of European speedway news of passing interest to me. Then the Grass track section. Finally the ONE page national league news. It seems to me that the Star is increasing the Polish coverage more and more as time goes by. There may be good reason for them to do so but it's not for me. Personally, I am not interested in Polish Speedway and I don't read 90% of what is written in those articles. I have seen speedway in Poland and it's no better or worse than in the UK. Sometimes watching the man bang the drum and the crowd getting worked up was more interesting than what was taking place on the track.

Watched it on catch up There are only two riders serious contenders, Freddy and Bartoz, the rest being also rans Freddy can't catch Bartoz so he's won it all ready. Grand Prix crowds continue to diminish and will continue to do so through lack of interest in foregone conclusions.

It's often been called a mickey mouse sport. So it stands to reason it would be a mickey mouse cup Even Poland has a mickey mouse team So there it is we just have to live with these things

I've noticed that Kelvin often gets emotionally upset when Poland's not doing well. It seems to upset his inner equilibrium!!!

When it was first announced I was going to go till I heard what the ticket prices were. Reading in the Speedway Star not long after the announcement, it was inferred that they weren't bothered if the 'local yokels' go as there will be hundreds of thousands coming from abroad. You shouldn't really complain about the prices, after all it is a world championship, a prestigious event!!!!

Was enjoying it till the Swede got excluded after that lost interest in it when it was 'given' to Poland Wonder if it will be the same tomorrow ??

I always get the impression that if Poland's not winning Kelvin is not happy at all You can hear the upset in Kelvin's voice that Denmark had the nerve to take points off Poland But they are still in the driving seat (thankfully)

It's true it's all a matter of opinion but decreasing interest in speedway proceeds as we all know

You are right he is the best (doesn't say a lot for the rest) and you can't knock the man for his winning ways. My problem is, is that sport is a competitive thing and if there is no competition then it becomes a pointless exercise. The result is that there comes the point where you lose interest and turn it off. An example. I was watching the Germany/Scotland game last night. When G went 2 up, I thought 'that's that' and turned it off I'm not going to waste time watching a walkover The result was I ended up watching the Spg 2 2023 - whatever they call it - the under 16'a - on you tube far more entertaining In other words turning my back on the one thing introduced me to the other thing And that's the problem with non competitive sport - you lose interest All the above is my opinion the way I have always seen sport I just want it to be competitive and may the best person win

Problem is he doesn't have any real opposition therefore it all being boringly predictable

Not consistent enough. Hit and miss. Seems to me that he's satisfied with that. Time will tell.

I think that people have not yet realised that deep down Bewley's not really interested in progressing in the GP's and therefore not interested in being world champion.
