I hear what you say Topcat. There could be several arguments on the issue of leathers vs Kevlars... 1. Problem with leathers is washing - Kevvies can just be bunged in the washer. 2. Leathers are more restrictive, heavy and hot 3. Kevlars are not as protective I do think riders should be more responsible for wearing proper undersuit protection though. Yes it may be more bulky to start with but you do get used to it. I remember being laughed at for wearing padded shorts with leggings underneath and a box.... to be honest it looked like id pooped a weetabix under my kevlars, but I wasnt gonna hurt my butt. I also remember strapping a pad to the downtube of my bike, Jernej Kolenko used my bike at Exeter and took the pad off, he lifted at the start of his race and cracked his area - he swiftly told me to put it back on lol. I apologize for deviating from the original topic of the World Cup - but it seemed fitting to discuss protective clothing -
Cmon all sports interviewers ask crap questions and theyre normally told what to ask by the producer. My big gripe is asking foreign riders complicated questions with big words and asking it quickly. And I do hope if Bridger does an interview that he doesnt look at the floor - and can be a bit more animated - the last ones at Eastbourne were awful The worst question ever asked is - are you planning changes. As if a rider is going to blurt out their secrets in front of the other riders - sprocket sizes and setups are a closely guarded secret in the pits

Im sorry I have to disagree League racing is seen by many as not value for money anymore. Back in the day we had a lot more entertainment for our money, and it wasnt as expensive. Seems like speedway isnt helping in a recession and is no wonder a lot of people are walking away. Scunny ran an experiment with £5 entrance which was a success - why hasnt anyone else followed suit. If the Stadia were full then that price would be ok - but they are not and many arent willing to pay that, until that is accepted speedway will continue to struggle with low attendances. This event wouldve got a lot more people going if it was more affordable - and that is a fact. The whole talk of riders not seen here all the time annoys me - a bandwagon jumped on by too many to justify increased costs. I used to watch Division 2 racing back in the day and we never saw the "top boys" back then, and yet the racing was first class and I really had no interest in these so called better riders, as long as I got to see my heroes.

It says on british-speedway.co.uk He has already said he is likely to have Lee in the team IF they qualify for Poland (but its not definate) It makes sense as he has bikes there and experience. It also gives the guys the incentive to do well tonight. At least he hasnt said WHO would be replaced before this match unlike the previous manager Hardly inspires a good performance if a rider knows hes definitely going to be dropped.

I agree - we should be supporting his decision - I think Rob Lyon said all the right things in the media. Where has all the loyalty and pride gone from this country - its a disgrace. The whole reason a lot of our sports teams struggle is because there is no self belief and we seemingly expect to lose. Whats the use of putting out the same guys year in year out, its time we took a chance and blooded some youngsters. And should really introduce a new one every year to continue development - Rome wasn't built in a day as they say. A team which may lack in ability and yet exhibit spirit and confidence could make anything happen. Dont shoot them down - we should be trying to boost them up

Your right in that sense Jim yeah. Theres a lot of modified neck brace designs coming out all the time though - so its definitely a developing product. Didnt know that about Barry Sheene - thats quite interesting, and Dainese is regarded by many as the Best. I just read up more on it and he made a prototype from visors - brilliant. -

Im not talking nonsense at all - your making personal attacks at every single one of my posts You seem to hate the fact I have knowledge from experience Id like to pass on via the forum to answer questions. Have you ridden and wore this stuff???? or even have any knowledge of it??? An under suit - i.e cotton leggings would have prevented the severity of burns. It does state in British rules that a full undersuit should be worn with race suits without liners - many think adequate protection is just a back protector. With regards to neck braces - a friend of mine shattered his collarbone wearing a neck brace - theyre not full developed for speedway at the moment, and riders like Bjarne Pedersen for example stopped wearing them. Even in the SCB rules it says that it is at a riders risk to wear them. It would be great for this sort of protection but there are a lot of problems that need ironing out first. -
An Apology

I didnt see much wrong - the forum seems plagued with members making really nasty personal comments at the moment though if their opinion isnt the one accepted by everyone. -

Dude as a racer myself I wear full undersuit - which helps prevent severity of such injuries - it reinforces what Neil Machin wrote at the start of the season in the Speedway Star about race suits - and that they do not provide adequate protection compared to leathers with regards to friction burns. I highlight the point that a lot of riders dont wear such protection and really should. I personally would never skimp on protection. Last season Andreas Messing suffered the same type of burns - and this was because he didnt wear protection under his suit (apart from upper body armour and knee pads.) After the injury we went out and got him some leggings. Snyper it seems you have a real dislike for me at the moment and I dont appreciate how critical you are to my comments - this is a forum for opinions, there is no need to make personal remarks. -
How much - £30 for Grandstand seating No wonder speedway isnt pulling the punters with that price - blimey. Makes no sense at all. Its cheaper to go to Cardiff I'll be watching at home - Im ill at the mo ne ways This seems like a two horse race to me.... Hope Team GB can do something - but think they will only be racing against the Slovenians in reality. Hope im wrong though. Think the right team was picked though because using the same riders every year isnt working - we need to take example from the Russians and how they have suddenly gained some good riders if we are to be successful in the future - the fact is they slowly got better - not just straight away. Poland and Australia should have a good battle though I would predict a Poland win though

World Team Cup
snapper-racing.co.uk replied to T.N.T.'s topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
How about same format - but with a non riding reserve who would come in if a rider is injured - or can replace a member of the team who isnt riding well in the meeting - but if a rider is then injured they would suffer the consequences - much like a reserve is supposed to be used - (i.e football - if they use all their players to just replace under performers in a match - and then suffer an injury to say the GoalKeeper - they would have to use a player on the pitch to replace him) This is where a team manager really would play a part in proceedings. I also thought a tape offence should mean a rider starting from 15mtrs rather than exclusion. They really should try to have 4 riders in every race in all competitions. Much like we have also said for GPs where the reserves should come into a race when a rider is excluded (except for semis and finals of course) Is it me or did saturdays match seem to drag on a bit too long too - I think 25 heats is a bit too many. It wouldve been a real shame had Russia lost the match after having such a good start. Isnt the Joker only applied when a team is 8 points behind??? In the WC competition this seems a fair enough option - as there is only one rider - so the max points would be 6 (leaving the team 8 points ahead to begin with still t an advantage - which still seems fair) - whereas in the British league a team can pull back a max of 8 points - which eradicates any built up advantage - which is very unfair -

Something to note - if you turn the throttle forward you can actually increase speed as the rear wheel catches up with the engine. The same principal is applied to get the bikes to slide in the corners, whereby the throttle is blipped (a quick snap forward and back) to give the rear wheel the required boost to break away and slide. To slow you have to roll the throttle off by about half and that could have made him drop off a lot - especially as they were entering the bend where you need an increase in speed. He was sort of in no mans land, although he could've avoided the crash... I was more surprised that Nicki didnt switch to the inside and it did look as if he was going down that path and yet stuck to the outside and went for a gap that wasnt there. -

They had them made last season - they were not new - he has new sponsors this season, so would want to advertise them. -

If you watch Sajfutdinov and the rest of the russians they were trying to straighten up quickly after coming off the bends - this can give a dramatic boost to speed. And is something Emil has a great skill for - this guy really knows how to ride the bike and switching from inside to outside in such a fluid motion. i dont think its solely down to machinery again - how would you just get a whole teams bikes to ride great. Its called getting the right gearing for the track more than anything. If your riding smoothly you will gain a lot of speed - the track looked nice and smooth and with a little bit of rain it would give that extra bit of grip. They rode as a team, they tell each other everything. I saw this team in Latvia when I was there with Team Usa a few seasons back in a qualifier and they are so professional in their approach - the work off each other - and think their hard work is now starting to pay off. Not taking it away from them but - the other teams did seam very lack lustre - the only rider who looked the business was Bjerre. Even Lukas Dryml was asleep until near the end. These guys have the old school / very eastern block mentality which means they themselves are like machines. -

To be totally honest this guy was in front and you ride where you wanna ride when your in front. Why wouldnt he close a gap - he doesnt want to get passed - this is racing. Nicki dives for gaps that arent theyre and seems to get himself into trouble. The gap was there and it was closed. I cant really see how Laguta could do it on purpose unless he has eyes in the back of his head. I thought it was a racing situation where really both could be at fault and would be either a double exclusion or both back in the replay. -

watching a replay of the crash Nickis front wheel is wobbling violently or even buckled way before impact - was this also a cause of the crash? Very odd -
Gp Challenge
snapper-racing.co.uk replied to Jenn's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Id guarantee Lukas Dryml to qualify for the GPs now - he seems to be very good at getting wins in these type of events I just wish he could carry it on into the GP though Zorro in the Gps?? hmm think he would be popular but would he get results????? he has been known to pull off a shock or too I agree the line up seems quite weak and there really isnt anyone who could go through and do something in the GPs apart from Holder realistically... and Freddies almost guaranteed top 8 in the GPs anyway. -
If you had ever been a speedway mechanic you would see it is a much simpler as you think. It is normally the riders who decide what set ups they want to have, and a mechanic with experience will help guide them. A engine set up for one rider wont work for another rider....due to riding style and what riders actually want. Carbs are set up for the engine - theyre not just thrown away, the jetting is changed. The psychological side is probably the biggest thing in speedway. Scott Nicholls is a good example... his eqipment is probably better than a lot of GP riders - but psychologically hes in a rut... and of course you blame everything on the equipment and not the mind. Mind over matter. As for tuners...like equipment they seem to have their cult moments - I remember a few years back everyone wanted a KLM motor - then it was PJR etc... its the same with engines and carbs - because hes got it I want it...and it never quite works out like they hope it does. This is also psychological - becuse if you THINK you have something good you believe in it more. A central organiser for the team???? huh - why would all the bikes be the same...riders at league matches usually have bikes set up different, why do you think they try to stick to one bike?

I dont care about his "past" the guy is a legend and has a great depth of knowledge - both on track and about the bikes being a highly skilled tuner. Id still look up to him as a mentor. -

snapper-racing.co.uk replied to DarrenCook's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Isnt it better to boost and trial the younger inexperienced team whilst we have no chance of wining - in order to get them competitive for the future. I was surprised by Richardsons non inclusion, but there only needs to be one rider with more experience to help pass it on to the team. Is it really healthy to run the same team and riders year after year which isnt going anywhere - no... so this is a fresh start so to say. Theres also help in the form of Michael lee, who helps both Tai and Danny - so theres stability straight away. Hopefully these guys will gel as a team more and help one another like us Brits should and did in the past - instead of being arrogant re madonnas. -

Rafal is awesome and been with Greg for a long time now. You have to have trust in mechanics and equipment - one less thing to think about
