Sunderland Speedway Website.
scarletrider replied to The White Knight's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I would like like someone to explain how the site which was closed down some time ago by Ian,myself and the site host, can suddenly reappear back on line without any of us knowing anything about it? The site as it is now, has clearly been tampered with, with lots of mistakes and statements that were simply not done by ourselves. We shall be seeking Legal advice into what is clearly an infringement of our hard work. The site has clearly been hi-jacked. "The Mackem" -
A sad loss - such a lovely man who always had time for a chat with you - and to share a dram or two! Thanks for the memories Jimmy. R.I.P. +

Rob Grant gets my vote, a great servant for the Bandits - and an absolutely fearless rider, one of the great characters in speedway. "The Mackem"

Sad news indeed, so very sad. A very likeable man, will be sadly missed around the track. RIP + Bob "The Mackem"

I agree 100% with what you say. The most sensible post I've read for a very long while. "The Mackem"

I'm a little disappointed to hear some fans criticism of Robbo. I understand the fans frustration at the disappointing season, but don't look to Robbo as being a rider who let you down - far from it, the lad is the leading point scorer (all meetings included) with over 350 points scored, and he has scored the most bonus points also. So he has scored more points than any other Diamond this season. Also I believe he is worth another point or two to the team for his work in the pits as Captain, and leading by example helping team mates etc. His points total may well have been higher were it not for his unselfish team riding, how many times have we seen him ride "shotgun" to his team mate. After 15 years of adorning the annual Sunderland Reunions with my speedway memorabilia, I have decided it's time to hang up - or should I say - take down my photographs, posters and related bits and pieces. Age has caught up with me and with the collection growing ever more larger, you might say it has got out of hand ......it's a huge collection! The good news is that although the reunions will cease to run in the old format - thanks to the loyal support from all over the country - the message was clear "Well-just name a date and we'll all come up and see you just the same" They are determined to make the annual trek North to see us, have a good catch up and a meal or two over that weekend. My thanks go to all who have attended the Sunderland Reunions over the years - and all who have helped to organise those great events ..... and I can truly say we never had a single failure. Well done to all. Bob Ferry

Riders Who Draw In The Crowds
scarletrider replied to ColinMills's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Two of the finest "Racers" I've ever seen. Inside, outside, always looking for a way through at every turn, even when they have missed the gate .... and yes they usually did find their way through to the front. "The Mackem" -
Riders Who Draw In The Crowds
scarletrider replied to ColinMills's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Spot on Ian, by far the greatest crowd puller of his time and place. Teesside's Ron Wilson would book him at every opportunity for extra crowd he pulled in, he was said to put hundreds on the gate. "The Mackem" -
Thanks to all who attended - another great evening, and another success. Thanks especially go to the riders/ex riders who travelled long distances to be with us. Bob, Molly and Ian

I'd like to say a big thank you to all at Newcastle speedway, from the promoters to the speedway fan's - I've enjoyed my speedway season. A special thanks must go to the "Crazy Gang" on the pits corner, we've cheered, we've groaned, we've laughed and we've moaned (at times) But those guys have made it a memorable season for me. Things didn't always go as we would have liked, but heh ho that's speedway. Most weeks we were joined by our friends from Newcastle, Redcar/Teesside, sometimes Berwick or Workington etc. At the end of the meeting they would all shake hands and say "see you next time" Yes we were all winners - even though the Diamonds failed to win the league. But we'll all be back next year to sample more of the Brough Park experience. "The Mackem"

Having supported The Diamonds all season, and admired the way they performed after loosing Tully, Henry and Robson, I was more than disappointed with their efforts (or lack of) at Redcar last night. On the three previous visits to Redcar this season the Diamonds score averaged 47 pts. But last night they failed to turn up as a team. Reserve Chris Schramm scored more points than Lindgren and Tully put together! Some riders are not putting the effort in when it matters most. If the play off's are such a good thing why can riders not be arsed to make the effort - the seasons work goes down the pan-all for nothing! Where's your loyalty to the fans and your club - one big let down. To the riders I say you have a lot to make up for starting this Sunday, your'e team place is up for grabs next season, you are doing yourselves no favours, and you will loose some fans. To speedway riders all over I say "Where's your'e self pride" or don't you have any? The sport is mickey mouse as it is! I've seen this coming for a while now - for God's sake put it right on Sunday, you owe it to the fans and your club. "The Mackem"

Have to agree with TWK on this one Dave. I grew up with the belief that you should always - no matter what you do in life - give it your best shot. How can you look at yourself in the mirror if you haven't given your best - or cheated, A sportsman owes it to the fans, the paying public and to himself, to always perform to the best of their ability - otherwise they have cheated the public. I never reached the top as a footballer during my younger days, but every time I took to the field was special, I loved the game, how could I not give it my best shot. I remember playing a match on a New Years day - I was hung over from the New Years Eve, but that didn't stop me having one of my best games of the season. Can't stand non-performers, when you know they can perform to a much higher standard. Just my humble personal opinion Dave. The Mackem

Newcastle Diamonds 2014
scarletrider replied to dantodan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I agree with a lot of what you say, but as regard to Tully and Lindgren, Tully is a great team man - Lindgren is for Lindgren, extra points could have been earned for the team had he helped his team mate out from time to time and team ridden - once in front he never looks back. Lindgren did himself no favours last weekend when he trailed in last, then pulled a wheelie down the back straight........something to celebrate eh ? I would like to see Henry and Robbo back next season if fully fit, along side Rosen and Tully, and Kerr of course is a must, with Worrall looking likely to move on. Just my humble opinion of course, but it's a thumbs down regarding Ludvig from me. "The Mackem" -

Now in our 14th year of Sunderland Speedway reunions, we are holding another of our highley successful pre-Christmas get-togethers - or as we like to call them, our "Nosh and Natter" nights. Bringing together former Sunderland riders and others who helped to entertain us all those years ago. The evening on the 9th November will consist of a sit down Christmas meal, giant raffle, memorabilia, talk with the riders and a photo call. Fans and ex riders are all welcome to attend. Anyone interested please contact :- Bob Ferry tel 0191 5365064 or Ian Martin tel 0191 9034478 "The Mackem"

Very sad to hear of the passing away of Freddie Williams. He always had time to talk to the fans, always friendly and polite. Will be missed by many. R.I.P. Freddie. Bob Ferry
