  1. Bob Ferry has written two books on the late Jack Millen. "Crazy Jack" and "Millen, Both Sides Of The Track". As well as doing an article on him in one of the early additions of Backtrack.
  2. Subedei......we agree. Gollob was certainly in the mood tonight, and as you said....most compelling. What a performance, what a show. As for England, sadly the were "not at the races" tonight, (no pun intended). What a let down.
  3. My mistake. But is a spelling mistake all you have to contribute?
  4. I can't remember ever seeing Tomasz Gollob look so happy and relaxed. He may be passed his prime, but he can still turn it on with the best of them, a pleasure to watch, a great speedway artist. If the Brits dont win it, then I hope it's the Poles who do the business. Good luck Tomasz!
  5. Hi Noodles, The tickets are in block: U20 Row: 12 Seats: 3and 4 Level: 6 let me know a.s.p Scarletrider
  6. I have two tickets for Cardiff, (they are complimentary), unable to attend. Any offers? The proceeds will go towards funding our Sunderland Speedway Reunion in November.
  7. Spit the dummy yet again Nicki......tut,tut. You realy must learn some self control, take a tip from Greg Hancock, he gets a bum deal from time to time, but you dont see him blowing like a volcano when thing arn't going his way. And isn't it about time Ole Olson or the powers to be, ordered him to cut out this bad behaviour, after all he's letting himself, his sport, and his country down. Grow up! And before all you supporters say "Oh it's have a go at Nicki time again" just remember that he brings it all on himself. He's a great rider but not a great sportsman!
  8. Try the Sunderland web site, it's due for an update, but the history is well documented. Well worth a visit, plenty rider profiles and pics.
  9. Two or three promoters have shown interest, "never say never" as we on Wearside say........Nil Desperandum!
  10. John Hart also broke the 3 lap record on the same day, 48 sec. 23/8/74 I have mountain's of photographs of the Stars/Gladiators 1971-74
  11. Bob Ferry has written two books on Jack Millen........"Crazy Jack" and "Both sides of the track". Both are full of full of previously untold stories of the great entertainer "Crazy Jack". He also penned the article in the "Backtrack" magazine. Thanks for the memories Jack, may you rest in peace.
  12. Thanks for your sentiments and understanding "prostar". Your comments were most appreciated. We live in hope that speedway returns........."Nil Desperandum"
  13. Congratulations to Jason Crump on winning a second World Title. And congratulations have got to go to Hans Andesen on winning another GP. I have been Hans harshest critic when I believed he deserved it, but it is only fair that he gets praise when it's due to him. So it has to be said that Hans has been the best rider in the recent GP's, he has been outstanding! When he gets on with his racing he's a winner. Maybe he has been influenced too much in the past by the "antic's of Nickie Pedersen, (a wasted talent who could have won more titles if he had put his brain in gear rather than thoughtless actions)
  14. Add Sunderland Stars/Gladiators to that list, we would dearly love to be back in speedway. Nil Desperandum
  15. How is it that when the Danes are "dishing it out" they take the attitude "we want to win, anything we do is justified, we ride hard, we are profesional.......don't be a wimp....this isn't the Conference Leage" !! Yet when someone else rides hard, (very often fairly) they don't like it!!......foul they cry, dirty riding, uncalled for, exclude them, before going on to whing to the ref or the TV......spit the dummy, lets throw a tantrum and con the public. Grow up, be the sportsman you're supposed to be, you're getting away wth far too much, and setting a bad example to the young riders coming into speedway. By all means give it everything, try your hardest.......but above all respect your fellow riders!
  16. I fully agree with Jancarz. That sort of behavior cannot be tolerated, but same goes for N Pederson and H Andersen, their antics were a disgrace. Not only did they shame speedway and their country, but for once I felt sorry for Ole Olsen. They behaved like wind- up bully boys. We also had decisions go against us in this World Cup, but we didn't spit the dummy and use foul and abusive language on camera for all the world to see. The remark by Hans Andersen with regard to Chris Harris was totally out of order. "This is not the Conference League".........it showed a lack of respect for a fellow rider. Over the years I have seen some shameful stunts pulled against Gt Britain, these guys come over here to earn their living and to improve their speedway, what do we get in exchange......a kick in the teeth, time after time. It didn't help matters when H. A made some very rude gestures to the crowd. While not condoning their reaction to it, just maybe that sparked it all off. The best team won on the night, but surely Pedersen and Andersen should be up for bringing the sport into disrepute. But I suppose its a case of "it's all right to have a go at the Brit's" ........The rest have always a string of excuses ready to trot out. I had thought that Pedersen and Andersen had changed their ways this year, but it seems they havn't. The pair of them are sly, arrogent, selfish and disrespectful to speedway and their fellow riders. Congratulations Denmark, the best speedway team won, but not the best sportsmen (N.P. and H. A.)
  17. Why do people always stray away from the original thread? ........which is why are some promoters scared of letting jnr teams ride under whatever name, and providing the people organising it come up with the nessesary expenses.....have the courage and forsight to renew interest in speedway at venues where they are without a track to race on. Surely it can only benefit speedway in the long term! Long gone track names would give extra interest to second halves at a meeting, and extra value, which I think is getting less each year. I welcome replies, but stick to the thread!.....Some forums are full of one line replies, often as little as one word at times. Have they got nothing better to do, or is it they have simply zilch to contribute to the discussion? Spread the word, more speedway not less.
  18. Recently atempts were made for a team to represent Sunderland at jnr level, which was turned down by a promoter. To quote......."No way am I having a Sunderland team riding here. We can't have any old team riding in speedway" unquote.....Why not ! If the organisers of such teams comply with the nessesary expences, insurance etc, why not ! The home track would gain with their own juniors getting regular run-outs. Surely it would help to keep speedway alive in towns that have lost their own speedway tracks. I would like to see some promoter have lots of different teams take to the track with jnr teams. How good would it be to see the red and white jackets of Sunderland take to the track once again. You could have Crewe, Ellesmere Port, Halifax, Liecester, Romford, Bradford, all lost tracks, the list is endless. Short sighted promoters are seeing to it that speedway is loosing thousands of prospective supporters. Spread the gospel of speedway, stop putting your heads in the sand, less of the "we're all right jack, we have speedway here and that's all that matters" Well next year it could be gone! I'm tired of those who run speedway taking the attitude "we know best, you'll get what we give you". It's time to be brave, time to be adventurous, give speedway a big kick up the backside. Glossy magazines and sky coverage on television won't bring in the punters, but speedway for all will at least give it a chance.
