  5. Hi Steve, I havn't got the programme, but I have it as Harding 3 pts and Robson 1 pt. This was probably taken from the Sunderland Echo report of the meeting. Hope this helps. Best Wishes Bob Ferry
  6. Visited the museum/collection for the first time last weekend, absolutely amazing. A great credit to Ian Patterson, a fantastic collection of memorabilia, I recommend a visit to everyone. "The Mackem"
  7. Ian Patterson will be opening the Speedway museum on the 26th Feb and 24th April. The opening times will be 10am - 3pm. A worthwhile time to see the "From Cinders To Shale" collection.

  9. Thanks to everyone who attended .... a brilliant night. Thanks to all who travelled a long way to be with us, very much appreciated. As Richard Greer said to me "You just have to keep these nights going". Well we try, and to those who misseed it ..... you missed a treat. Our thanks must go to Pete Wigley on the mike, he kept us all entertained with a never ending string of one-liners and jokes, to Ginger Abigail for bringing along a speedway bike, and all who helped with the setting up of the room, and clearing it the following morning. And lastly to the to the staff of the "Little Haven Hotel" for their fantastic hospitality and making all our guests so welcome. Once again, Many Thanks on our behalf. Bob and Molly Ferry and Ian Martin. (Sunderland Speedway Supporters)

  12. Spot on AndyM - totaly agree with you - PC was the greatest "racer" of them all, and Mort was just a whisker away - and Hyde Road .... WOW! "The Mackem"
  13. I reckon he was close to 50 year old when he appeared for Sunderland in 1971. "The Mackem"
  14. Sad to learn that former Ipswich and Sunderland rider Bernie Aldridge has passed away recently. A grand old gentleman of speedway, he will always be fondly remembered by Sunderland speedway supporters. R.I.P. Bernie "The Mackem"
  15. Good luck "Kings", hope you are successfull "The Mackem"
  16. I'm not sure but was Terry Barclay in the police force? "The Mackem"
  17. This forum is fast becoming like the joke factory....... Years gone by History of speedway, defunct tracks, Famous riders, classic meetings!!!!!!!!!! Why the comic capers..........stick to speedway, at least on this section please. "The Mackem"
  18. Yes I'm fully with you Ian and 25yearfan, it's a lovely stadium just waiting for speedway to return. And you are right, we never got a fully competetive team, but we loved them all the same.....they were our lads and they wore the (71-72) race jackets with pride. The 71-72 race jackets were a great design, still brings a tear to the eye when they take to the track occasionally (thank's Newcastle, Berwick, Weymouth and Redcar) As my old pal Ian would say "Haste ye back" Nil Desperandum "The Mackem"
  19. Yes Vic Harding, what a nice lad he was, and what a fine speedway rider he turned out to be. Still fondly remembered by all at Sunderland Speedway, what a sad loss to us all. God bless you Vic! Bob Ferry
  20. I always thought that speedway was raced on a dirt track!.........so why was the track at Lesznow scraped bare, and the dirt piled up against the fence like a giant snow drift?....... could it be to help any rider trying the wide line, to launch him up and over the fence.......yes, that could be it.....add's to the excitement don't you think. Think it's about time the public demanded a return to proper speedway tracks.....with dirt on them! We're sick to death of Ole Olsen tracks, time to go, we're sick of you.
  21. Yeh, we got mugged again, we get no favours from anyone, and we have no friends in speedway!
  22. I fully concur with what Ian has said, to malign a dead man who can't defend himself is itself indefensible. Jack Millen was many things, but to duck a challenge was unthinkable......he relished a battle.......he loved living on the edge! The harder the opponent, the more he liked it. He should have kept his thoughts to himself. Shame on you Frank! "The Mackem"
  23. If it is proved that those riders were involved in crowd trouble, they should be hauled before the speedway authorities and punished for bringing the sport into disrepute. "The Mackem"
  24. Cheers Bert, will do that for you. "The Mackem"
  25. Haggis, Credit for the Sunderland Speedway posters, must go to Brian Longman who produced them at my request, having previously done a set of posters for our Sunderland Reunion. We are grateful to Brian for producing these posters (all free of charge) and posting them to the museum via Richard Greer. I hope they can now be seen at the museum, and that Sunderland Speedway can be represeted there. Hope you will like them. Bob Ferry "The Mackem"
