Nice to win a close meeting for a change. Must admit I had my doubts before Heat 13 but credit to Charles and Danny they pulled it out in their last 2 rides. Solid team performance and could even have an often have an off night for Jason. Really good to have Danny back and a full 1-7. Monarchs had more heat winners than the Bears - Pickering,as expected, entertaining. Sedgmen, as expected, excellent when he gated and Paco had his best meeting at Redcar. Wood deserved more and battled really well, certainly improved since I last saw him. Racing wasn’t great again with a lot of FTG but Heat 13 was a cracking race.

He has now

Well he beat both Mulford and Trigger last week guesting in the NL match. But I would hope that the Bears reserves out score the opposition reserves tonight.

In terms of the meeting itself, as always it’s hard to call. Depends what version of each team turns up on the night. Danny King back, will be interesting to see if he’s fully back upto speed. Need solid showings from the rest of the team to make sure he’s not under too much pressure. Monarchs can be as unpredictable as the Bears but always a pleasure to watch Josh Pickering, one of the leagues great entertainers on a track he rides really well (although he’s not seen this seasons version of it!).

Currently raining in Middlesbrough but forecast to stop in next half hour or so and forecast for the rest of the day (currently) isn’t too bad. I’m not that close to the track so not sure how much rain it’s taken over the last few days but facebook page was just updated and no mention of the meeting being in doubt atm.

Poole Pirates Vs Redcar Bears 5th June

When a rider like Wright can’t make a move on Hagon you could say the same too. Similarly Ben Cook was way off the pace if he didn’t gate. -

Good performance from the Bears - Jason Edwards in particular but Wright, Bailey and Mulford all had their moments too. With a fully fit Danny King it might have been even closer. Obviously Lawson losing a chain helped but Bears deserve some luck after the season we’ve had so far. Lawson and Brennan very good for the Pirates, but the rest of the team very up and down. As others have said the racing wasn’t good, only 2 passes of note (Wright and Brennan) and the rest decided by turn 3 lap 1. Noticeable too how strung out the races were after the blue groove appeared. BSN stream good as usual but watched without sound as I just can’t listen to Roynon. -
Obviously pleased with a Bears win and a solid team performance but it was a really poor watch. Every race was just about decided after bend 2 lap 1. Think we saw 2 passes in the 15 heats. They showed a replay of Heat 2 and I thought it was in slow motion but it was just the 2 lads at the back tootling round to try and stay on. I know the rain caused some issues but track didn’t produce any meaningful racing all night. On the plus side, good stream from Plymouth despite a few technical issues.

Was looking at an old declaration, I stand corrected (said the man with the built up shoe)

Bears couldn’t find a guest so are running R/R. I assume the Bears would have used Batch but he is riding “elsewhere”. Makes the task more difficult now.
-
He’s guesting at Poole, not sure about Plymouth.
-
Not sure if the Bears have a guest lined up or not for this one?

Redcar v Glasgow, 2nd tier comp, 1/6/24, 5:00 pm

He’s also not very good at maths - claiming that Pearsons falls cost the team 4 points and would have resulted in a 46-44 defeat. -

First the good points from a Redcar perspective. A WIN! and we have had precious few this year. A good solid team performance with 6 of the team getting at least a paid win. Good home debut from Gilkes, Bailey looked much better and Tate contributed well as a guest. The bad points were the delayed start (I know sometimes these things happen) and the amount of time it took with lots of grading/watering breaks meant the meeting felt disjointed. The racing too was very processional for the most part with most races decided by the end of lap 1. 3 late 5-1’s to Glasgow made the score closer than it looked like it was going to be and might prevent the Bears getting the bonus point. But given the season we have had so far, I’ll take the points. For Glasgow, Harris was excellent as always and Flint ended with 2 wins, but the rest didn’t offer much support and Worrall was very disappointing.Hope Pearson isn’t too badly injured too. -
Some very good racing despite the score line and the delays caused by the tape issues. Very inconsistent refereeing didn’t help things but Scunthorpe were always well in control and always looked like comfortable winners. Few bright spots for the Bears, Wright battled as always and Bailey looked much better as the meeting went on. Gilkes had one excellent ride. Zischke had a fantastic first race then tailed off. Scunthorpe are strong at home and Howarth seems to have upped his performance. Could even afford an off night for Lambert and win easily.
-
Plus it was last lap and Wright was well in front, should have been awarded. Then a 5-1 in the re-run. Didn’t affect the overall result but poor refereeing imo.
-
Well I’m hoping the Bears put up a decent performance. Will be watching on the excellent Scunthorpe streaming service.

Pity there is no stream, always enjoyed the racing at Glasgow when I’ve watched it. -
MPT for Barker now.
-
Dan T replacing Jason (fractured cheekbone) at Oxford. Jason has been one of the few bright spots for Redcar this year, hope he’s not out too long.
-
Oxford website says it’s Ben Barker again. With Edwards likely out, the choice of guest and Oxford strengthened by using R/R for Atkins not sure I will bother purchasing the stream.

My only issue was the amount of dust, totally unacceptable , particularly on the back straight. I agree about the racing generally, I’ve definitely seen a lot worse and it’s the fact the opposition are the team doing most of the passing that is skewing judgement I think. Apart from Charles we don’t have another rider who likes to blast around the outside and it’s frustrating seeing the opposition doing it. We have been used to winning most of our home matches over the years, losing only occasionally, but 4 home defeats out of 5 is a tough watch. -

Another week, another home defeat. Well done to Berwick on a fully deserved win. Strong team performance all round really, special mention to Borke who was excellent at reserve. For the Bears it’s the same old story, Wright superb and only missed out on a max when Barker baulked him and his footrest caught the fence. Barker did ok, could have done with Riss this week, but the rest were very hit and miss and always look vulnerable. Track produced some good racing but the level of dust was totally unacceptable, even from Heat 1. Tried watching from my usual vantage point on the back straight and was covered after a couple of races, so had to slum it with the lads on the home straight for a bit . Yes it’s been warm and sunny for a bit but the track was far too dry at the start. Not good. Not a good night to be a Bears fan. Again. -

No need for King Charles when you have King Edwards! After last nights home defeat that’s a welcome result, would have taken a win on aggregate but a 10 point win away is excellent. Brilliant from Jason (who scored 2 there a couple of weeks ago) and a good all round team effort (Knudsen aside). Just shows how inconsistent this team is.
