Belle Vue v Peterborough Panthers - Grand Final
marko replied to Flappy's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Although this seasons British League top tier is probably the most farcical ever in the history of our sport, I will still happily congratulate Peterborough on their success, they were the best of the six teams over the course of the season, not just at the end. The form of Ulrich prior to his injury was the main reason for that, to have a reserve progress to a number one thus meaning a heat leader standard rider would almost always be at reserve was a masterstroke as was the general team build that many had written off. -
They are Trees but during the peak of summer we hardly have any meetings, hence they have to be all crammed into the final month where it’s often cold and wet.
-
"broadcasters need live summer sport" LOL not laughing at you Byker, just the notion that speedway is a summer sport but those who run it seldom run it actually in the summer months
-
The sport in this country would be better off with no tv coverage at all, it’s descended into a made for tv sport with the live fan very much second in the thoughts. TV was responsible for the tactical ride and the play offs, gimmicks designed to turn it into something artificially closer, never mind who the better team or rider was. Also the only reason why these meetings now run into October is because of TV, everything should be done and dusted before October. TV was supposed to help the sport, not aid it’s demise.

Does a certain ex promoter “takeover” the track prep for tv meetings still? He was always know for preparing very smooth tracks but typically just one line. -

Not only that but Poland take this sport a lot more seriously so in the eyes of the fans, they probably would not want to see their riders being pally with the opposition. -
E Speedway is easy to simulate, just watch the speedway on TV with the sound on mute. Speedway is essentially made up of three senses, visual, audio and smell, just taking one element out can affect the experience, take two out and its no longer what you call speedway.

Speedway is nothing more than a parody of what it used to be at this point and too many matches do not have anything meaningful about them. Back in the 80s my league had 17 or 18 teams in it, bar a small handful, you would only see certain opposing teams and riders once a season, no two matches were the same in any shape or form. -
RE Jake Allen - Totally plausible, I was good for nothing the day after my second job, the next day after that, right as rain, completely back to normal.

Is Emil Right In What He Says?

In the grand prixs money will always talk and Bartosz is small in stature he will always be quick but that does not always translate as a bit of weight could mean better grip off the start? Domestically something has to be done to reduce costs to the riders, no one can afford to pay them the sort of money they would like to be earning, so the only other way is to work it so that a riders outgoings are less, thus they can keep more of what they earn without it being ploughed so heavily back into their equipment. Until speedway is made more viable to both, riders, promoters and fans, things will continue on a downward trend, it really is that simple. -
When I moved house I decided no more paying out to sky or cable companies for a service which I really do not use that much, I can't say I have missed not having a ton of sports and other channels to watch, the free stuff is more than enough, and I am saving well over £100 a month. There is quite a lot of speedway on youtube, ok it might only be the odd race and not live but its free and the ones filmed with no commentary are an added bonus, just the sound of the bikes.

I wonder if we will see the Thurrock Hammers promotion move to Eastbourne, they already sponsored the NL team, and are effectively a promotion without a track and Eastbourne is a track without a promotion. Of course I would like to see Essex have a track again but I just cannot see it in the current climate, the only hope would have been had Arena Essex being developed into a sports park with the speedway staying.
-
For several of those riders its deja vu, Lawson, Newman and Kerr were all at Lakeside in the final season and that ended up folding with riders owed money they will never get back even if the Hammers team is reborn as Thurrock, which lets face it, if we are honest, its not going to happen and those riders still wont get their money as it will be classed as a new business. Ironic that Thurrock Hammers was sponsoring the National League team.
-
Will affect Kent Kings too, they have lost Lakeside, Rye House and now Eastbourne, all clubs within reasonable travelling distance for away fans.

Can never understand why some sports owners choose to punish those that get their in plenty of time by making them wait for those that got their late. -
They should be sued for failing to deliver on what I presume would have been an agreed contract

I would like all speedway to be under one roof, (Polish, Swedish, GPs and British) on a channel that you can get via an online subscription, no need for SKY tv or cable packages etc
