Where though? The options are Tottenham, Wembley, Olympic Stadium or the O2... Tottenham and Wembley are hardly in accessible areas, O2 is probably too small, Olympic Stadium maybe I think the track has steadily improved over the years but took a massive step backwards this year, I think there were a number contributing factors... it's always borderline anyway, then apparently the shale had got mixed up with some gravel and it also hadn't been used for 3 years and of course the heat

And that's coming from somebody who attends Leicester

Championship Pairs 2022
IainB replied to Triple.H.'s topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
Fortunately we have 2 and a half months of no racing coming up! -
I've just looked at the weather forecast and am puzzled as to why this has been postponed... maybe more to do with rider availability?

This is the smoothest the Poole track has been for the last 20 years! -

To be fair the track looks as though it's riding OK, credit to the track staff... never in doubt Will be interesting to see how the track progresses as they're normally riding the fence after a few races, will take a brave boy to go out there! -

Is it in doubt? -
Haha! That's an understatement! There's only been 22 postponed fixtures all season (so far)
-
Not entirely true, while there are fewer clubs in the UK, it doesn't stop clubs running extra competitions
-
For once I think the issue has been the exceptionally good weather... most of the foreign leagues are wrapping up and the riders in the poorer European teams not involved in their pay offs are all of a sudden rolling up on our shores looking for a job... and we've no fixtures to give them!

How many fixtures is that?

Meanwhile the rest of the sport takes August, September & October off!

UK speedway slowly dying
IainB replied to old bob at herne bay's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
That's a huge part of the sport that is missing these days, TM's are so limited in what they can do other than swap reserves around -

Speedway always has been and always will be a great sport for a newbie. You can't fail to be impressed by the skill and bravery of the riders, the noise, the smell, the sheer spectacle of it all... it's only when you scratch the surface that (especially now in Britain) it doesn't really stand up to scrutiny. Some folk will realise "it's all about the start", some will make it a bit further and say "it's all about the first bend"... then you only have to attend a few fiascos, go home covered in dust, realise that your rider is riding for every other Tom, Dick and Harry and you're out -

If you are booking hotels make sure you're using Top Cashback or Quidco, there's quite a saving to be had

My ticket for the weekend was £22.50... my ticket for next years event is £22.50 I'm just wondering how much you think it should be for VFM?
-
I suppose the point is, you pay what you think the weekend is worth... With the benefit of hindsight I should have knocked the Sunday meeting on the head and just gone home after the SGP, total cost would have been about £70, pretty much the same as a trip to the NSS on a bank holiday Monday for me... and for an SGP round with 16 of the worlds best riders that is astonishing VFM, and lets not forget the daytime bank holiday meetings at the NSS generally ain't that special. For those not happy with the price of the weekend I think the answer to the question of cost cannot be laid at the feet of the SGP organisers.
-
So that's both ends of the budget spectrum for us and I dare say we had pretty much the same experience we were looking for... a great weekend interspersed with a couple of crap Speedway meetings. I also got down to Cold Knap at Barry Island and the Cardiff Bay Barrage for a scout around.

Ah but I wouldn't have "treated" myself to Maccies

I'm not saying you're right or wrong... but as we're talking cost, here's my breakdown: Ticket: £22.50 Accommodation: £41.40 Fuel: £45 Food: £18.92 Total: £127.82 And I had just as crap a time as every one else lol... it could have been a classic though Even if you doubled it (excluding fuel) how are you knocking on the door of £600? It can be done on the cheap (if you're a car owner) £165 for a couple.
