We'll never know about Havvy in a GP in 92, so we'll just have to go with the fact he won the championship. As for wildcard Vs qualifiers, personally I just think there are too many wildcards and it's to open to opinion, at least if you've qualified you've done it on merit Comments like "nice little air fence" do not help your cause
-
I wouldn't say I'm surprised, more disappointed, no need for 5 (Inc meeting wildcard) 3 is enough to allow for injury, leaving 5 for quali Except when it mattered most
-
I watched Havvy in all of his qualifiers in 92 and he was easily the best in the world in 92 and it came as no surprise to me he won it I think he did... But they have been handing out wild cards for around 20 years now and that's the only one that springs to mind. I think they have got it the wrong way around, it should be 3 wildcards and more quali places
-
Tell that to Darcy Ward you sick man! I wonder how many of the nominated wildcards over the years have gone on to win the world title... Or even rostrum? Most of the picks are done for financial reasons Havvy not the best in 92? You're joking right?
-
That's true... Craig Cook has implied he's a cheat recently on Twitter, he obviously doesn't believe people deserve a 2nd chance... But was still hoping for a wildcard himself
-
I get what you say about the closed shop, maybe it's time to cut the quali roll over to 5 places? But surely you can't say that last night wasn't dramatic
-
Even today's GP closed shop is better than the old inter & continental final qualifiers where token quali spots were given to Eastern block countries effectively making the one off world final a 10 (ish) horse race
-
But Crumpy did it in the GP era, where you can't get lucky

Official Playoff Final Thread: Stars v Pirates

And this is the official thread -
Happy to debate... Surely the only definition of best is winning the world championship, it means you are the complete rider, these days more than ever with the GP series, yes you can have your favourites and prefer to watch them, you may think others are better passers or gaters or have done whatever. You can only beat what is in front of you. Who was better TRick or Crumpy? The record books say TRick, but Crumpy medaled for 10 consecutive years, an amazing achievement, not equalled, not the best ever but the most consistent ever.
-
My only opinion was that this great achievement deserves its own thread, what remains fact is he will become Britain's best ever speedway rider: finest, greatest, top, foremost, leading, pre-eminent, premier, prime, first, chief, principal, supreme, of the highest quality, superlative, unrivalled, second to none, without equal, nonpareil, unsurpassed, unsurpassable, peerless, matchless, unparalleled, unbeaten, unbeatable, unexcelled, optimum, optimal, ultimate, surpassing, incomparable, ideal, perfect A stupid reply to a stupid post And despite all that will prove himself to be the best Brit ever tomorrow

KL town centre is a lovely place, well worth a visit... I enjoyed it more than my trip to KL speedway (abandoned Vs Leicester) -
You're sounding a bit like a horrible racist

I'd ask on the unofficial thread of I were you... More chance of a reply -
He could just buy Poole then and run the sport

Jim Lawrence appointed chairman of the SCB

Ok... I can't see what the big deal is then. But congratulations to the guy -
I'd say yes it does... It's not a matter of opinion. A matter of opinion would be that he is or isn't your favourite. He'll be the best British Speedway racer ever, that's a fact... Otherwise somebody could say Rob Shuttleworth is the best ever!
-
Just thought, that if Jim Lawrence had his own thread then so should Tai
-
I refer you to my previous reply... The man is about to become 3 times BRITISH World Champion!!!
-
He'll do it... He's done it twice before and he's already said he's going to do it tomorrow. Bartek has already shown himself to be a bit of a choker when he should have cut Tai's lead to 4 or 5 points, there's no way he'll do it in front of his own fans. I think to win his first title he needs to start the season well and hang on
-
Yes, he gets a mention, there's posts about him in the SoN section, I just think he deserves his own section on the verge of such a massive achievement.

It reads as if that's exactly what they do to me... So the BSPA make the rules up and the SCB enforce them? -

The members of the board... Blimey you have to be Columbo to piece all this together. Am I right in thinking that the SCB are like arbitrators in BSPA petty squabbles? -
I can't believe that the day before Tai proves himself to be the best British Speedway racer ever there is barely any mention of it on here. On the verge of his 3rd world title he's been head and shoulders above his rivals this year with only a very slight wobble a couple of GP's ago. Number 3 will see him join the greats of the sport and at 28 if he can stay injury free surely TRicks record must be in danger. Ah but I hear you cry... He talks with an Australian accent, he's turned his back on British Speedway, he's got tattoos! I think he's grown up a lot in the last few years and now comes across really well on TV, articulate and arrogant... Which is ok when you can back it up. Woffy! Woffy! Woffy!
