Sheffield v Leicester - Thursday 1st August

He could have used Ride-her Replacement -
Just listened to it! Unbelievable! What the actual flip are the management doing at Brum in between races? There's almost as many managers as riders and not one of them could think of informing the riders of the score situation!

I do wish these Speedway riders would time their intercourse better with their calendars -

What's happened to Cook? I'm sure he was named on the website when I looked last night... the text above the line-up still states "But their initial job comes in South Yorkshire where manager Stewart Dickson names an unchanged team and riding order to face the Tigers." -
He buggered off 7 years ago when the money dried up!

Big deal! Everybody wins at Birmingham!

If the doggies are back at Perry Barr the Speedway will also

It all seems a bit nicey nicey when you hear the brum management speak, it looks to me as if the Birmingham team need locking in the dressing room and somebody to start kicking some arses and get the paint peeling off of the walls! They're starting to rehash the same old excuses, setups, track conditions etc. Good news to hear the Brummies will be back next year, subject to the doggies... they should stick one on a bike, couldn't do any worse: https://x.com/UprightSpeedway/status/1815316673710145935?s=19

Belle Vue were involved in a boring match at Leicester and now at Birmingham... the common denominator?
-
No disrespect to Jake Mulford but Flint should not be getting done by him on his own 5h1t heap!

Is this the longest parade in Speedway history? Are they stalling for time?
-
... calling everybody an idiot and suggesting they find something else to do?

Speaking as a Leicester fan, I've been to all PL tracks this season as a Lions fan and also occasionally as a neutral, with the exception of King's Lynn, for obvious reasons! For the quality of the racing I've seen Belle Vue is a given, surprisingly the next best has been Oxford!

Championship Pairs Oxford 16th August 2024

Is it possible to make it from the Sprint Race in Cardiff to Oxford on Friday night I wonder? -
Prior to heat 11 it was all pretty much done and dusted by the entry to turn 3 on lap 1, there was some good stuff in those opening 2 bends and 1 straight but it was all pretty much follow the leader stuff after that, until heat 11. Heat 11 and 13 were pretty good races not much else beyond that. Glad you enjoyed it though. A solid performance from the Lions though and with Oxford seemingly having given up on the play offs we may well sneak in 4th place. If we can stay injury free, unlike Sheffield and Ippo, who knows it could well be a Leicester vs Belle Vue final!

Thanks, read this earlier https://gbspeedwayteam.com/news/european-preview-31 Which indicated he could possibly have ridden. I assume the same concussion rules apply no matter what country a concussion injury was received?

Edinburgh v Berwick Championship Friday 26th July 7.30pm

What a performance by Joe Thompson! You can see his experience of riding Leicester being used around Armadale. If Ben Barker had performed anything like he should have done Berwick may well have got something out of this. -
It'll be interesting to see if he rides in Poland over the weekend. I thought I heard he was knocked out in his spill, I could have heard wrong though.

I think we've reached the make it up as you go along because we've trussed ourselves up with contradictory rules stage of the season haven't we? Good signing though, how could you not after last Monday!

Wayne Jarvis putting in another remarkable refereeing performance! -
I know you're anti-guest, personally I don't mind it, within reason... but I turn up every week and pay my money over and have become immune to it but I can see how it looks to outsiders. Speedway, at the moment, is quite a bit different to all other team sports in respect to replacing unavailable riders. The only way I can see to eradicate guests would be to operate a squad system, standardisation of machinery or handicap racing... or all 3!!!

Normally the SCB sign off their statements with a we will not be making further comment on this matter type of statement and now they're going to war with a journalist that has done more to get the sport column inches in the national papers in this country than most... well played! -
Although the ripping up of the track and relaying of a proper track will please the many of us that remain it's highly unlikely to attract anybody new to the sport. Look at BV, best track in the world, riders riding to a half empty stadium... and that's also one of the better run clubs with good rider continuity over the seasons. For me the racing is better than it has ever been, you only have to look at some of the old stuff on YouTube to see that. Maybe we were lucky at Leicester in the past at Blackbird Road, we used to have a pretty decent race track and a pretty crappy team, meaning we were often treated to last heat deciders to keep the entertainment and interest levels high. The cost these days though is just too high to attract many newcomers, you're looking at around £50 for 2 adults and 2 children. People will point to other comparable sports and I just looked at The 100 cricket ticket prices and yes they are comparable... but is the entertainment and interaction level comparable? Not for me I'm afraid. Would you take a punt at £50 on something you'd never sampled before? If Speedway is indeed a family sport, there needs to be a family ticket, a proper family ticket, 2 adults + 2 children £25! And no checking of passports and birth certificates at the turnstiles. That is comparable with a night out at the cinema, where you're sat down in a nice comfy seat, in an enclosed environment away from any weather. At £25 you may also make back some of that money with burgers and chips etc.
