  1. be interesting if the same guest promoter had been booked by 2 different promoters on different days....no thats daft, it'd be a like a rider riding for 2 different teams in the play-off semi-finals..too absurd to even contemplate..sorry
  2. i wonder how many of us would welcome our daughters dating mr. evans rather than our sons dating ms webster?
  3. 40 years i've been getting the star...it is then passed every week on to my cousin..we both read it cover to cover..me in the week it pops through the door, he normally 3 months later as he never seems to be able to reduce his backlog...seems to enjoy it just the same though...
  4. the south east a hotbed of nl speedway..who'd have thought..reminds me of crayford, Canterbury, eastbourne, rye house in nl....those were the days
  5. I am back working in Manchester next week. Is it worth me making the effort to go and admire the progress being made?
  6. maybe it means this lot are the new sponsors... www.kingloose.co.uk/
  7. re that letter...I really do admire Len's enthusiasm and commitment, unfortunately it seems to blind him from what's staring him in the face...less and less fans!
  8. at the opening london meeting v peterborough it as so crowded on that bend that we actually stood on the play equipment to see over the 6 deep crowd.
  9. you are joking. The viewing at the new London stadium was appalling. Only thhe addition of temp stands for GPs made it fit for use.
  10. i am constantly amazed that long-standing El/Pl club fans have never travelled to their nearest nl track to watch a meeting..If you have only watched EL meets at Arlington over the last few years then be prepared to be more entertained. You might even see some passing!
  11. is this the longest run in speedway history for a club to go without winning a league title?
  12. just goes to show how far down the pecking order our sport is doesn't it...won't be long before we have to give way to the local U3A staging a bring and buy at our local stadium as that will entice more through the doors..
  13. to be honest given the promoters didn't act upon the suggestions made when consolidated by the speedway star a couple of years ago i doubt they are listening any more now...they seem to be in a world of their own (either that or they can never agree on anything so nothing changes).. Thus an independent body is the only way forward...but who is gonna pay now that the sport is on its knees...i'm afraid the opportunity was missed during the good times and we are the ones left to put out the light.
  14. the whole sport has gone play-off mad. GET RID PLEASE!
  15. PL Riders championship 14/10/12. 2 hours to run 20 heats than another 2 hours to run the semi-final and final...and then a mad dash to Newcastle to see tapes up at Brough Park. Had lunch with John Sampford who gave Anders Mellgren a lift but gave him no chance pre-meeting...erm, he set the fastest time and reached the final!
  16. yes Martin. I think you're the man to represent the fans on the 'board' like Labour are suggesting should be the case for footy...
  17. ..the track was excellent...well Done all at Kent...I eventually gave Nielsen MOM but Kingston and Ayres were very close after their epic battles....Looking forward to next season's NL a lot...
  18. good to see we are being represented by some English riders.
  19. 17th September 1978 at Arlington. NL Great Britain v Denmark (minus Olsen) Arrived in good time for the normal 3.30 programmed start to be told that due to a delay in the ferry transporting the majority of the Danish riders following a meeting over there the previous evening we'd have to wait for them to arrive. So we all hang around for 2.5 hours until at 6.00 they run some 2nd half heats with the 'international' finally starting at 6.30. No recollection of what time we got away but it must have been c. 9 p.m. I was therefore on-site for at least 6 hours to watch a total of 21 heats.
  20. yep, i enjoyed whole day....and of course i made a typo above....and it should have read Somerset and not Scunny in PLKOC!
  21. 25th June 2006 : Mildenhall 'B' 40 Scunthorpe 53 (CL) followed by Mildenhall 41 Scunthorpe 52 (PLKOC) In between the two matches we adjourned to the bar to watch football: England 1 Ecuador 0 (world cup). First match started at 12 noon and the second at 18.00. Some might argue this was in fact 2 meetings as first was reffed by Barbara Horley and second by Christina Turnbull. I believe time-wise this may have exceeded the 48 heats I saw at Wolverhampton as mentioned above (I do not recall the elapse time for that).
  22. By the end of heat 15 of the NL match at 9.50 there were i reckon about 150 hardy souls left
  23. We had enough stoppages in this meeting to last a season. This match finished at 7.30. I'd guess the crowd at c. 500. They sold out of programmes.
