Hi there. If you read Howard Jones's Defunct guide to Fleetwood there is a reproduction programme of Fleetwood's opening meeting V Edinburgh from 1948 which Dudley Merchant is named as manager of Fleetwood. It does advise the following: Born in Hastings in 1901, manager of Wimbledon in 1946 and then Sheffield & Wigan in 1947. Don't have any other information after this I'm afraid. Steve

Hi there. As part of my research into the 1973 season I am trying to work out where Cliff Hindle (father of Ian) scored a point for the Saints as a "fill in" during the 1973 season. According to both the Speedway Star and Mail he failed to score in the official league fixtures at Barrow (17 July) and Ellesmere Port (30 October), yet the official averages advises that he scored 1 point in 5 rides. Does anybody have a completed programme for either/both these meetings to confirm where this point was scored, in what heat and who was the rider he replaced. Any help would be appreciated ! This has been a mystery that has foxed me for a while but I hope someone can help me solve. Thanks for reading Steve
