As part of my research into the 1973 season, I would be grateful if anybody can clarify the following ? Coatbridge V Bert Harkins Globetrotters 6/7 - Chris Quigley scores 3 points for the Globetrotters as per Speedway Star, yet the heat results advise Quigley scores 4 points so it appears Quigley is a non finisher in one of his races - but which one ? Boston: Lincolnshire Trophy 7/7 - Les Glover scores 6 points per Speedway Star, yet heat results indicate he scores 7 Points, can anybody confirm Glover's correct placings during the meeting ? If you help, please advise or scan a copy of the completed racecard(s) to me at steve@wilkes1.freeserve.co.uk Thanks for reading Steve

Hi there As part of my continuing research into the 1973 season, does anybody have the heat results from the completed programme for this match ? The heat results published in the Speedway Star are incorrect and just to muddy the waters further, the Hackney points scorers published in the Speedway Mail differ to the Speedway Star ! So if you have the completed programme I would be grateful. Thanks for reading. Steve

Thank you for the information. Exactly what I was after. Cheers Steve

Hi As part of my research into the 1969 season can anybody clarify the heat placings for Clive Featherby and Malcolm Simmons in this meeting and also the heat result for heat 7 and the winning time. It seems the heat results published in the Speedway Star are incorrect, so does anybody have a marked programme from this meeting to confirm the correct finishing positions and missing heat? Thanks for reading Steve

Thanks Robbie B for your reply. It looks like your programme may be completed from the Speedway Star heat results. So alas it does not confirm the correct heat details Can anybody else help please ?

As part of my research into the 1973 Season does anybody have the completed programmes for the following meetings to confirm the correct placings: They are: Bradford V Boston (May 9 1973 - meeting abandoned), Featherstone and Arthur Price 4 pts each - heat results incorrect in Speedway Star Ipswich V Coventry (May 10 1973), Garry Middleton scores 8 Points, it looks like he rides in heat 8 or 10, again the heat results are incorrect. Please help ! Thanks for reading

Hi there. As part of my research into the 1973 season, I would be grateful if anybody could confirm the correct heat placings for Eric Boocock & Mike Hiftle in this meeting. According to the match report published in the Speedway Star, Eric Boocock scores 13 whilst Mike Hiftle scores 8 Points. However the heat details advises Boocock scores 15 & Hiftle scores 6 ! Does any has the completed racecard to clarify the correct placings for Eric Boocock and Mike Hiftle please ? Thanks for reading.

Yes it certainly does ! Thanks very much Steve -
Hi there. I would be grateful if anybody could confirm the correct heat placings for Norman Hunter and Terry Betts during this match. According to the Speedway Star, Hunter scored 7 and Betts 5 points based on the heat results published, however official records seem to confirm both scored 6 points each. So it does appear the heat details are incorrect. Does anybody have the completed programme from this meeting to confirm the correct placings ? Thanks for reading.

Thanks for your help - another off the list ! Alas I have never heard of Dave Walker either !

Hi there. Does any have the heat results and times for the above match. This meeting was abandoned after just 2 heats with the diamonds leading 9-2, unfortunately the heat results were not published in the Speedway Star. Can anybody help please ? Thanks

As part of my research into the 1972 season I would be grateful if anyone could let me have the correct heat results for the above match. According to my records it appears that either the heat results are correct in which case Bobby Beaton (Guesting for Cradley) and Colin Gooddy scored 6 and 2 points respectively or did Beaton and Gooddy score 7 and 1 points respectively. If anybody can clarify the correct details from the actual programme, and confirm which is correct ie, the heat results or the Cradley team points scorers published in the Speedway Star I would be very grateful. Cheers ! Steve

As part of my research into the 1972 season I would be grateful if anyone could let me have the correct heat results for the above match. According to my records it appears that Doug Wyer replaced Reg Wilson in one of the heats during the meeting, so it seems that the heat results published in the Speedway Star are incorrect, so if anybody can confirm the correct details from the actual programme I would be grateful. Cheers ! Steve

As part of my research into the 1972 season I would be grateful if anyone could let me have the correct heat results for the above match. According to my records it appears that the Swindon points scorers are wrong, so it seems that the heat results published in the Speedway Star are incorrect, so if anybody can confirm the correct details from the actual programme I would be grateful. Cheers ! Steve

Having been an Ellesmere Port fan I got to see both John Jackson and Joe Owen wear a Gunners racejacket. I never got the opportunity to see Joe Owen ride in the powerful Newcastle 1976 side but his record speaks for itself and based on the his NL average and his individual preformances there are can't be any doubt that Joe Owen was THE NL superstar of all time. I recall watching Joe ride for the Diamonds in 1982 and remember the excitement when he appeared at Thornton Road and wondering whether any of the Gunners could beat him, this also happened when Joe rode for the Gunners in 1985 when the home fans willed the local favourites to try and beat Joe on their own patch on the Gunners travels. Regarding John Jackson he was also a NL superstar and like his great rival Tom Owen they both preferred to ply their trade in NL. "Jacko" was probably the one rider in NL in the mid 70's that both Owen's considered their nearest rival. However for consistancy Joe Owen wins the award as he was "top dog" in NL averages in the 1975,1976,1982,1983 & 1985 seasons and NL Champion 1976 & 1982, Something that Jacko didn't achieve (his best was third in the 1978 NL averages and second place in the NL Riders championship in 1976 & 1978). However in terms of performance at Thornton Road, there is no doubt that Jacko was the "man". Joe never achieved the home mastery at Thornton Road of Jacko in his only Gunners season, while for Jacko defeats at NL level particularly during the 1976 -1978 seasons at Thornton Road were extremely rare. So my vote goes to Joe "Burger" Owen. Bring back the Gunners !

This is an error in the published results in the Speedway Star, it looks likely that the error occurs in heats 3 and 5. To obtain the correct riders scores it would have to be Hindle (1st) and Newton (3rd) in heat 3 whilst in heat 5 Emerson (2nd) and Newton (3rd). Can any Comets fans confirm this ?
