  1. Yes I remember hi, well, he only rode for Oxford I think for 1 season, but I feel sure he rode for more than just 3 Clubs.
  2. Brilliant piece of laying down a bike from 2 of the riders in the clip.
  3. 2 names that appear here are ones I forgot, Cyril Francis and Dick fisher, dont seem to have evr heard anything on here about them.
  4. Didn't he try out for somewhere lik St Austell or Plymouth Bulldogs in the 60s?
  5. It doesn't seem like 46 years ago, but I remember it well.
  6. I always thought Jack Kitchen looked a bit like Cyril!!
  7. I remember him well, Rhe always resembled Ray Cresp if I recall correctly.
  8. Dreadful shame to see the 'Firs' go!!
  9. Bobbath, Spot on and what a wonderful side they were!!!
  10. Joe Goodey was one for a bit of sport. If I recall correctly, he gave a good one to Ove Fundin and another to the late Les Owen. I think Genno slapped Clive Featherby one night at Oxford, but was not generally an aggressive guy.
  11. Must agree there, Blackbird Road was great. Forgot about that one!
  12. Have to admit that I never got to CH in the PL days(just collected their programmes) but went on dozens occasions since. Somerton was always popular with me, but I did like Bannister Court when my father took me in around 1963. I agree with your sentiments in respect of camaraderie those days, unfortunately whilst there is still no violence in the sport these days, some supporters get very overheated and can be very personal!
  13. He had many injuries and rode on several occasions with his ankle in plaster and wrist in plaster. He was a very brave chap.
  14. Thank you yesterdaysman for defending me. this section is full of guys who would walk mastermind!! I am afraid to make a contribution sometimes because I know that Bobbath, Norbold, Starghost and Grachan are watching every move!! But i am learning!!
  15. Thanks for that on South Africa, But Arne's injury camre at Coventry in about 1960/61 in a crash with Les Owen.
  16. I was at that match at Oxford and it was horrific, both of them went through the fence at high speed.
  17. One former Oxford rider of the 1950s that has never been mentioned on this site is Pat Clarke. He retired before I started going to speedway in 1959. Legend has it that he was almost unbeatable around Cowley and I understand that he had some bad injuries before he called it a day.
  18. Bobbath I have apologised to Grachan. It was a dreadful error.
  19. Grachan, apologies, you are absolutely right. My memory is very misty these days
  20. Bobbath, I know what you mean about Graham Warren, but he had achieved already. Was it the 1950 World final what he could have won?
  21. Steve, Genno is a good example. He was injured in South Africa in a car crash I think 1956 when touring with an English team. I believe that it was the crash that Gery Hussey was Killed in. He then had serious eye problems in 1959 and then qualified as reserve for the World Final 1960 in Gothenberg bu bwas unable to travel because he needed an operation. In the late 60s of course he fractured his skull in a crash at cradley, but to be fair that was towards the twilght of his career. However, previously he had been 'a points machine' for Oxford and Poole.
  22. I think he changed back to his real name of Howard Cole in the mid 60s
