Gb Team Announced.
Brian Hamilton replied to Chris's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I think to be fair, Middlo has got it about right as we should really be going with in-form riders. A few weeks ago Lee richardson would not have got into the top ten but in recent weeks has shown i lot more enthusiasm and I just hope he proves it in the SWC and not turn in one of his moody & petulant performances. I know eddie is not fantastic around Brandon but he is maturing every meeting and is well worth a shot. Pity Lewis Bridger did not get a call but in terms of form he has been a little indifferent of late> Come on Team GB!!! Brian -
Thanks Guys it was not meant to sound unfair, but I really do miss some of the 60s riders. I look forward to being a regular to the retro site Brian
-
Sorry to be a wet blanket but although the retro site is great in concept, like all books, clips & photos on the Forum, one would think that speedweay only started in the 70s. Brian

Reg Duval who rode for Oxford in circa 1960/61 was South African. Rune Sormander who Qualified for the 1960 World Final as reserve if I recall correctly was German, but cant remember whether he was East or West.

Very sad to hear of Ken's passing. Apart from his superb riding ability, Ken was known throughout speedway to have the most immaculate leathers and equipment. Everything about him was 'pristine'. Never to be forgotten Ken. Brian Hamilton Oxford

Press Coverage?
Brian Hamilton replied to Rob B's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I listened to the sports news on BBC Television this morning and it mentioned Lewis Hamilton, an obscure golf tourmnament with Brit from Hartlepool winning and an irrelevant 1 day cricket test result. BUT NOTHING ABOUT A BRIT WINNING THE BRITISH SPEEDWAY GP IN FRONT OF 50000 SPECTATORS!!!! Shame on you BBC TV and ITV for that matter Brian Hamilton -
Or Ronnie Moore from Tasmania

Cardiff Parking Warning
Brian Hamilton replied to oldtimer's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
In view of the experiences of last year and what is being said about parking charges etc this year, I can see it is getting very close to the old saying 'killing the goose that lays the golden egg'. Watch out Cardiff Council, be warned!!!!!!! -
We normally take a picnioc hamper with drinks, but last year the marshalls were taking all drink containers of of us. I left 2 bottles of wine at the gate! and drank the other before we went in (In about 5 minutes). I really think the Milenium Stadium are trying to tie up the potential revenues from supporters. Also on the subject of what and what not is happening saturday. The Park & Ride last year was a farce, we arrived at the usual park expecting to pay £5 for the bus ride as in previous years but were told that we had to walk to the stadium as Cardiff coul;d not afford to run buses anymore (we did not have to pay for parking as a gesture of good faith). Hundreds of us thought it was disgraceful as we had no warning from the signposying etc and it was only when we arrived at the car park we were told and then faced a walk of over a mile.

I know he was not 6'8" but the late Les Owen was quite a tall guy. Brian Hamilton Oxford

Hi John Poyser started riding in second halves at Cowley before making PL status. He lived in Cowley. His brother tried second halves (Roy) but didn't for very long. Brian Hamilton

iris123, You wouldn't be thinking of Arthur Forrest would you who rode for Coventry circa 159/60? Best wishes Brian
-
Its just come back to me know, did he always look as though he had a crewcut hairstyle?
-
Norbold are you just sat there with a flippin book full of statistics or do you have a fantastic photographic memory? Brian
-
Genno sorted Featherby out in a punch up at Oxford
-
Dead right, sorry
-
Colin Pratt didn't ride for Oxford but Colin Goody started at oxford in 2nd halves in about 1960 an dcame back as a part of the Championship winning side in 1965.
-
I know Ronnie Moore rode in Finals in the 50s and 60s. Did he not make one in early 70s?
-
I think Sandor Levai took some beating though and at a guess he rode at Stoke before moving up to Belle Vue!
-
Bobbiath, He was riding for Oxford in 1961/62 and he always looked older than 40 but what a bubbly charachter? He had apile up with Genno one Good Friday at Cowley and he broke his thumb. Brian

This thread reminds me of my first visit to Wembley Stadium (No roof) in September 1960. Bob Andrews and Bryan Elliott were reserves and I think Bob had 1 ride for 2 points. 3-Way tie on 14 points Fundin/Moore/Craven. Fundin won and Moore 2nd with Craven nearly crashing but finished 3rd. Best wsihes Brian

Hi Gemini (My Birth Sign) I remember Charlie Barsby, he was part of the Leicester team that included Ken McKinlay and Brian Elliott and possibly Harry Bastable in the early sixties. Very attractive side Brian

Hi Bobbath, Some things are clear in my head and some unfortunately misty....... Best wishes Brian
