  1. Well said, Speedibee and S4K! It should be said that a few people - Lawrence Rogers, Jason Pipe at Buxton, Richard Hollingsworth at Scunthorpe - do a lot for grass-roots speedway, but in the face of a wall of indifference from promoters. I spent a lot of time last year helping a rider go through the MDL, so know a bit about it ... the worst thing was going all the way to Mancester, where the main match was delayed by a EL rider having hysterics, locking himself in the changing rooms, and so on ... the MDL match was casually cancelled, and then we had to drive all the way home through a jammed motorway. The final straw was, though, when I arranged some after-match practice at a local track. When we arrived, we were told that there was no practice, the track staff couldn't be bothered!
  2. Unfortunately, this is only too true. MDL riders are usually treated like dirt by promoters.
  3. Started by Perks driving the other three into the fence. Not surprising that Richings was angered! A man standing next to me, who seemed to be a new fan, commented on this.
  4. Would anyone trust Chipmunk to do the rewriting, anyway? After the Hall debacle - which had nothing to do with averages - I wouldn't trust him to wipe his nose.
  5. PS you don't need the latest kevlars for amateur racing, but get a decent crash helmet! Look up Dragons speedway also, and Scunthorpe Amateur Speedway on Facebook.
  6. Just goes to show - when Chipmunk became boss of the BSPA, things were going to be different - same old Dastardly, though
  7. Fid, you are quite young compared with some amateurs! However, while there is a junior 125cc class, you will have to compete with the 500cc novices. I have, though, seen someone do that (at Scunthorpe); he did score some points, and was not lapped. I have seen some novices lapped, but the lappers were then promoted to the next class. Hve a go - you will enjoy it.
  8. I think that Mr. & Mrs. Hume were trying for it ...
  9. Explain, please. People are throwing accusations around, but without any evidence.
  10. This is exactly what Birmingham are doing .... although more astutely than others.
  11. And certainly not Tony Mole's!
  12. I saw Guy Martin try flat track at Rye House once; I think that it was for some invitation motorcycle racing affair. He wasn't very good, but with a little practice he could probably do it. Though after making a serious attempt at killing himself road racing, he has given up racing!
  13. He will also be at the Birmingham Press & Practice day tomorrow.
  14. Dogs are edible! Don't try to find out what is in your sausages
  15. The Somerset stadium is now a wonderful facility. If the new Coventry stadium - if it is built - winds up as good as this, you will be doing very well.
  16. In that case, the track which is most central and easiest to get to, and easiest to ride, is Perry Barr.
  17. Er ... you have actually seen any NL racing? They are NOT 'wobblers'!
