eide67
No home match for Monarchs this week, instead they continue their travels to Redcar following their win at Oxford on Wednesday. Confidence should be high but Redcar have a formidable heat leader trio which will test Edinburgh's more solid line-up. Returning to an old home track should help Michael Palm Toft knock off some of his race rustiness, and new young reserve Jordy Loftus has experience of the Redcar track having scored 10+3 there for the Academy on Sunday. It will still be a bonus if he picks up any points with the Redcar reserves both showing good recent form. Tate Zischke guests for the injured Jason Edwards for the Bears. Teams from Redcar website: Redcar “Agilia” Bears 1 – Charles Wright (C) 8.80 2 – Jake Mulford 4.87 3 – Tate Zischke 6.23 (G) 4 – Danny King 8.47 5 – Erik Riss 7.17 6 – Jody Scott 2.00 7 – Ace Pijper 3.21 TM: Gavin Parr EDINBURGH MONARCHS 1. Victor Palovaara 9.30 2. Kye Thomson 5.53 3. Justin Sedgmen 7.35 4. Paco Castagna (C) 6.92 5. Michael Palm Toft 7.80 6. Jonatan Grahn 3.36 7. Jordy Loftus 2.00 TM: John Campbell
boz
Looking forward to hopefully a good (and warm) meeting! Edwards is a huge loss as was having a really good year - but Zischke is a decent guest. I do feel him and Mulford will be key. Loftus looked ok at the weekend, especially if he gated but looked a bit more tentative in traffic. Hopefully Pijper can keep his form from the weekend going as was excellent. Will go for a home win, but could be close.
szkocjasid
Think the Edinburgh TM, has made a howler giving Grahn his 5th ride in heat 12. Means if the club are 6 points down, can't use a tac sub, or can only replace Castagna with a tac sub. Loftus having to have his 3rd ride. If he put Loftus in heat 12, heat 14 could possibly be Castagna & MPT, if they weren't 6 points down then Grahn gets his 5th ride anyway, no harm done.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. 4 down you’d probably fancy Grahn and Sedgy to get a 4-2/5-1 there which they were on till it got pulled back no idea what for. Well I, for one, was screaming at my computer screen to put Jordy in heat 9 (like they did at Oxford) against a tough pairing. Agree about heat 12 - so frustrating to have it pulled back after Jonatan had made the start and Sedgy looked likely to join him for a 5-1. Although you could clearly hear the klaxon sound just before the tapes went up. No idea why though. Good competitive display by a solid Monarchs side - especially Paco and MPT. Jordy looks like a good stylish rider and was pressing Jody in heat 14 - I'm sure a few points will start to come as he gains experience. Also great to see Ace starting to re-discover some good form. Well done to the Bears.

I wouldn't call it hindsight, I'd call it planning ahead. Loftus has to go in 12 or 14 (they weren't gonna drop a rider from heat 13). So the choices were Grahn in 12 or Grahn / tac sub in 14! Didn't cost them the match, but could've been closer.
szkocjasid
Before the match Edinburgh could've been satisfied to score 41, but after being only 4 points down a couple of times, probably feels like they could've done even better. Shows the team has improved, scoring above 41 at one of the title favourites & you feel it could've been more.

Sedgman been poor for a few weeks now which is concerning. Grahn only beat Mulford and failed to beat a bears reserve all night.
Robinh88
Have been critical of King Charles recently (by his own high standards) but very glad to see him back to doing what he does best particularly at home. X2 for Danny King!

The referee said the tapes weren’t working correctly🤷♂️. Looked ok trackside but he did do a test before restarting the race. Red lights on straight away but riders didn’t seem to notice. edmon
How in the name was Wright, Bears' Rider of the Meeting it was clearly Ace Pijper

Seems to happen a lot at most tracks I think it's the "random " starting system not working as it should, same as the transponders
