When you have less money it's much more difficult to spend on increasing the entertainment. I don't think better racing is the answer at all. I’m not necessarily talking about the racing. The Portsmouth Southampton football match that was screened on ITV was as dull as dishwater. In fact quite a lot of live football I have seen has been uninspiring & certainly not highly entertaining for the majority of matches as you would think for a sport that is dripping in money. It’s the product people want to be involved with the entertainment value of the spectacle is secondary. Get the competitions & the overall product right.

Cardiff numbers would have stayed high if they got the track and the racing right. There were probably 3 or 4 decent standard track preps and good racing in the whole of its history at the PS. The dreadful track surfaces and not world championship standard racing put people off in there thousands. Which was perfectly understandable. I don't think Brexit and Covid helped the number of Poles travelling to Cardiff seemed to drop off a cliff post 2020 and agreed the year Bewley one it the surface was truly terrible which would have killed 20-30% of the spectators from ever coming back. Despite being a far from ideal location Odsal did produce some great racing in the two world finals I witnessed there.
