Mathematical convention is you only round at the last stage so 7.995 becomes 8.00 rather than the reduction being rounded up.

You round up the answer. Is the answer the reduction of the average?

Reduction = average × 0.025.

And the answer is 7.995

So 8.00

Or

7.99 (using the Kerr precedent).

I'm glad we got that clear.

I have a degree in Maths and legal training.

One tells me it's 8, the other 7.99.

I think we should leave if to the BSPL, they are clearly wiser than us. 🙃

Theres probably numerous degree trained people browsing this forum. Degree in engineering here and I also dont know for certain 🤣

God help us getting an answer off them in charge over this, they still haven't confirmed or denied that the AGM took place yesterday, never mind a statement of what may or may not has happened 🤔

So much for the point of view that it is already pre decided in teams meetings and just needs rubber stamping 😂

well hopefully they are discussing what happens next year too, and of course there is the big discussion about how many premiership teams there are.

Apparently standard rounding conventions dictate that a digit is only rounded up if the subsequent digit is 5 or greater. in this case the 4th decimal place is 0 so the preceding digit ie the 3rd decimal place 5 remains the same.

The answer is surely clear - the rules say only one rider OVER 8 so whether CC is 7.99 or 8.00 is irrelevant. Workington can welcome him back…… :)

That would be wrong for two reasons:

1] mathematical convention

2] precedent Lewis Kerr went from 8.60 at the end of 2023 to 8.39 at the start of 2024.

But this is all irrelevant if the rule is 'one rider over 8', as 8.00 is not over 8.

This is very true, and if I recall correctly, a precedent was set at poole a few years ago with bjarne pederesen being 8 when the rule was tried in the elite league

The one over 8.00 says a lot for Comets team building purposes, as does the rule about returning British rider reduction of 8% for each year out.

Could this mean Zach W returns with a 40% reduction on what his average was. i.e would be about 3.17

Think we need a bit more clarity of this new rule. Is it an accumulated percentage reduction, like yiu have calculated, or is it exponential reduction.

For example, it could be 8% × 5 seasons = 40%, which would be 5.27×0.6 = 3.16.

Or, is if, 5.27×0.92^5 = 3.47.

It's the former. The rule is already in the rule book, it's just that its scope has been expanded.

Brill, if thats the case, there are some very good talents who could return on ridiculously low averages.

Hope your not thinking of an ex jailbird 😟 but Zack w might work, but he will be in long track several weekends, but I think at least 1 possibly 2 rounds have been lost

I wasnt, but now youve brought him up, lets discuss. His speedway star article was interesting, and he seems to have turned a corner. Maybe someone should give him a second chance.
