Is he racing in Poland? Edit - looking at his Facebook page for his racing he rode in a meeting in Aus in June. Can’t imagine he would come all the way from Aus for a handful of meetings. If a rider is injured (which Gilkes is) I believe you can make changes after the deadline

Only change allowed would be to bring back an injured rider after a temporary change ie Erik Riss / Charles Wright scenarios.

Yes but we are talking about the Chairman of BSPL who will have the 'best interests of speedway' in mind! 1

If there was ever a time to use that ruling, it would've been for Edinburgh maybe 5 years ago (if my memory is correct it goes something like this). Nathan Greaves retired just before the end of August (transfer cut-off date), William Lawson who had been dropped earlier could only be reintroduced using the September averages, couldn't replace Greaves in August. So Edinburgh had to use guests for the rest of the season, same thing happened to Redcar when Connor Bailey retired. I understand they don't want teams to sign riders just for the play-offs, but an rule that facilitates more guests being used needs looking at. RS50
Has Jacob Hook definitely signed for Scunthorpe? Can't find anything on Scunthorpe website, Facebook, or BSPL to confirm this.

Wherever you’re getting that info from is way wide of the mark. Nothing to do with anything on Jacob’s side of things.
Onthafence
Crazy to bring hook in on an inflated average and he’s only ridden once this whole season in a low quality Aus field. Will take him a few meetings to get going and scunny only have a few meetings really 🤪

Hows your teams efforts to find a replacement going? no doubt playing catch up on the fixtures you will keep using Kennett then get a ringer in for the playoffs? Best interests of Poole speedway.. Gilkes was injured in the crash with Ace Pjiper not retired,,Gilkes was a replacement for Lambert so we cant bring him back. Well done on getting a new rider, ive no doubt if he is over her or coming over he will get loads of track time as we dont race there until the 21st

And I think its crazier still that they didn't bring in Vuolas if they're clearly willing to bring in riders from further afield.

May be a promising rider and nice lad but this late in the season can really affect a rider more then gain. You’ve gotta be slightly realistic, he’s coming in to an almost completed season. Everyone’s had a lot of meetings/laps/starts compared to his one meeting. Will either knock his confidence and possibly look worse for a team spot next season or he’ll go fine and will work out for next season. Goodluck If Hook struggles, it will lower his average, which could help his bargaining, by saying "I'm better than that, but was racing against riders already dialled in". Strange situation signing a 5.5 rider as a "3rd heat leader". If Scunny have been talking to Hook since April, means they could have replaced MPT when he lost form, but chose not to. However he goes, I will applaud Scunthorpe for not going down the guest route.

Goodluck Exactly, I agree with you mostly, that's why I said I don't understand them bringing him in so late if they've been talking to him for 3+ months. If they'd made the signing earlier he could have had plenty of time time settle in rather than being thrown in so late on. I'm a neutral as far as the Championship is concerned anyway so makes no difference to me personally, but I hope he goes well, it was a a surprise that he wasn't back at Workington this year. I thought him and Vuolas both missing out on team places was a real shame.
Ryan555
Well Jacob Hook it is. As people have said it won’t be easy for him to jump straight In having not really ridden much this season however there’s no doubting he is a talented lad. Scunthorpe aren’t been blessed with options, the only other rider I could think of was Fredriksen who was one short of the Olympic rings at the EWR earlier this year. As for those saying why didn’t they change earlier I think the Scunthorpe promotion were looking at changes however since the recent strong run in form you aren’t gonna make any changes, they would be silly to change a winning formula! To be fair they looked super weak on paper but have surprised a few including me but you can't see anything other than a Poole steamroller in the play offs.
