dont know the reasons , but if its down to costs, thats their problem, they are no where near a level where they think they should be making a living out of it. thats the problem today nobody seems to want to do it for the love of it, if you cant survive past the apprenticeship you dont make it pay.

Meanwhile... if true, there's riders in the PL on guarantees who don't care one jot about British Speedway. While Trigger and Perry may not have been the next Bartosz Zmarzlik they could well have been the next Simon Lambert's and without them the sport is dead.

Can you for a second get your head out of the sand please, if a rider turns up at any NDL team with one bike straight away he’s questioned where is your other bike, also where is your helper, and that is where it starts, the fantasy days of (for the love of it) faded away years ago and now it’s about being professional first and foremost and then o we’re doing this promoting youth and then if you don’t comply then we have to let you go, appreciate don’t make me laugh, and by the way it’s slightly more expensive than in 1970/80s

Adam SHIELDS while at Eastbourne spent almost the entire season one year with no mechanic and ive noticed there are a lot of ex riders willing to help and give advice in this day and age. What is the agenda with riders like Perry and trigger do they and their promoters think they should be full time only or is it still juggling work with sport?!!

Both lads have jobs and do speedway with help of their amazing parents and friends, they ain’t full time riders they combine both like most of the NDL, it’s bloody hard work and I know that personally because we’re doing it, not one rider expects anything except a fair crack and believe me or not if we all said stuff it some people on the forums would be even more stuffed because they wouldn’t have a platform to tell us what they thought of our concerns for our sport

I know Ben Trigger has announced his retirement which is a real shame and indicative of the state of the sport at the moment.

Feel for Trigger but you have to question what they are asking to ride.(I don’t know) .Some of these juniors think they are in the big time with their demands.(so I have heard). The sport is in trouble times.

Riders at NDL level are given the points money and travelling expenses by the club, and it’s not very much at all, it’s about gaining track time on the first level of racing, believe me I personally don’t know of any rider making demands, unless they are extremely sought after for guesting, otherwise its a standard rate

Don’t think there is a”Standard Rate” in the sport that is adhered too.

Maybe not for established riders but believe me at the lower levels there is definitely a rate and most junior riders except those for gaining track time imho.

While 2nd strings and reserves probably except the going rate.I doubt the Top Men in NDL are riding just for track time. Buxton number of years ago were the only ones who refused to pay “over the odds” in what was meant to be a Development League and see where it got them.

Are you insinuating that Trigger was one of those ? As I can confirm he certainly was not . Whilst I am more than aware of some of these high ‘demands’ only a foolish promoter would give in to them.

Only ONE NDL club paid its riders the ‘standard’ rate and even they paid more to their ‘stars’, whilst other clubs paid treble the approved rate. Even the ‘Trophy’ sides paid more and I know this through riders I assist.
