Training opportunities and track time

Everyone complains about the lack of track time and opportunities available for prospective new riders to try speedway....... Fact

Many tracks offer opportunities and different organisations offer these to facilitate new riders.

They also give opportunities to facilitate rider improvement and enhancement.

What actually happens is that their is no communication between each track when they offer these facilities and they conflict.

Would it not be better that all tracks and training facilities communicate with each other so no conflict of same day activity conflict, meaning lack of numbers deem they cannot take place due to lack of number and all are cancelled due to lack of numbers?

Dependent on location it would make sense, If for example Edinburgh, Glasgow and Workington ran training/practice sessions then working together would make sense so dates didnt clash. Berwick, Buxton and Plymouth i daresay could all run on the same day

Well DUKES, can you list these ‘ many tracks ‘ ?

As theres now only 16/17 tracks in the country and I can think of only around 4 that provide REGULAR sessions, this will improve with the inclusion of Buxton and a few sessions at Glasgow , Mildenhall.

Amateur meetings are virtually dead now.

Workington, Scunthorpe, Leicester run regular sessions, Iwade run a few, could probably add I.O.W. ( but not many ). From the sound of it you can now add Buxton, Glasgow and a probably a few at Mildenhall. Not sure what Belle Vue are planning.

Duns hasn't been used for a few seasons . Redcar, sadly, no longer run anything. Lack of numbers seem to have made amateur meetings a thing of the past. Even second half events are becoming rare at tracks now.

Whilst Im aware of a few private ‘schemes’ that hire tracks to give people a chance to try speedway they seem to be mainly attended by the older generation just wanting to say they've had a go, with the odd kid joining in.

Gone are the days when Stoke, Kings Lynn and Scunthorpe ran regular amateur challenge matches at all levels as there were that many riders taking part.

Add to that how does the average motorbike mad kid know where and when these sessions take place?

By contrast they can buy a Trials or MX bike and race or practice every weekend without driving more than an hour from home. 

In my opinion if you want more Speedway riders the clubs have to associate with Grasstrack clubs and find some fields for kids to go practicing in.

Probably a biased view as I'm from the south and all the practice tracks are a long way away but I can't see anybody from my area getting their kids into Grasstrack or Speedway as things are currently.

Due to the extreme winter weather this year Workington have had to postpone several planned track days, probably same for other places, hopefully the weather improves and tracks can run a few extra track/training days to make up for missing out
