I agree with your second paragraph but not the first. If they're a lot better, then they should have finished higher in the qualifier i.e. the British Final. Yet the qualifiers from this year's GP qualifying meetings qualify for next year's GP Series. That's exactly how it should be, I'm not a fan of performances last season determining places for the following season, other than finishing in the top whatever in the GP qualifiers.
