What did people think of the crowd?

Huge credit to the track staff, it rode really well considering the elements. Also all fourteen riders who put on a decent spectacle especially when it is early doors.

I would say crowd slightly down from the usual but still ok, the rain all week and the forecast probably kept some away. But our diehards that come from far afield made the journey. Aberdeen, Greenock, Pitlochry, Stirling etc, they all made the trip down.

Should be a criminal offence subjecting people to that music, wished we had Scunthorpe's speaker system during the intervals.

There must have been around 50 songs played on Friday and you didn't like any of them... what do you want to hear?

I wasn't at Berwick last night, if you were, how was the music there?

Glasgow walked out to enemy by Greenday, which was good.  It was a mix of all sorts after that. The lovely couple from Newcastle in front were loving the country music. The biggest issue at Berwick was the sound system failing.

I think there’s a misconception on this subject. It’s not about personal taste; it’s about a fit-for-purpose experience.

I don’t mind a bit of Dancing Queen, but the playlist at Ashfield isn’t appropriate for that of a live motorsport event.

They get so much right at Glasgow, they really do, but the presentation is where it falls short; music, announcer and presenter included.

I introduced around eight people - friends and work colleagues - to speedway last season, including several hospitality boxes at Ashfield and the music was the butt of the jokes on several occasions from people who are new to the sport.

Agreed, it's not about what I like or you like or any other supporter likes. What songs are appropriate for a live motorsport event?

A fair question, but one that risks pulling you back into the ”your taste versus my taste” trap.

It’s less about preferences or specific songs, but more about the playlist matching the intensity, pace and edge on the track.

It’s remarkable how music can manipulate an atmosphere. We need to lean on that.

This is where Richard Coleman’s comments ring true. He was interviewed last night and said ”I don’t think the product is broken; I think it’s fantastic, but the promotion of it isn’t what it should be and there clearly needs to be some changes”. He wasn’t directly referencing music or announcers, but it’s a small part of the promotion of the sport.
