Ok, try this one. If a rider puts both wheels over the white line by mistake he should not be disqualified?

If it was a mistake it isn't cheating is it but his mistake should be punished because it is against the rules, if the referee was awake he would have told Newman that not wearing goggles was against the rules and put him off 15 metres.

Tbf no one is saying Newman shouldn't have been penalized, just that he wasn't cheating.

A fine would have been enough.

I doubt any rider would want to ride without goggles considering the danger. It just illustrates the commitment Newman had for his team on the night, and that has to be applauded imo..

It wasn't cheating but it was against the rules. If the referee had noticed once the race started then Newman would have been disqualified and his points wouldn't have counted. It is exactly the same as when it is noticed during or, immediately after, a race that a rider has not got a dirt deflector fitted. A situation I have witnessed at least twice and on both occasions the rider was disqualified and those finishing behind him moved up a place.

The reality is that the referee apparantly didn't notice, Poole gained the points and an overall victory by 2 points. End of story.

Poole won by 2 after gifting the final heat, would have been a totally different race If it was not a dead rubber.

The Clerk of the Course or the Start Marshall have a much better chance of checking that goggles, gloves etc are being worn. The Referee would find it very difficult to verify from the box that goggles are being worn.

It was obvious there was a problem for all to see even the referee and the start marshall probably didnt know the rule therefore the referee should have asked him to check. The guys on the tv could see it but the referee couldnt!

The Newman saga is history, time to move on people :t:

Totally agree.

But of course they won't.

I agree too! Statman says if we want to post on the Poole thread we have to be constructive!! ;)

In any case, Kyle Newman imposed a fine on himself in the final as he donated his goggles to the Belle Vue Fans on the 1st/2nd bend at Wimborne Road. A very constructive gesture imho.

The lol at the end of my post states that my post was of a humourous nature just like Skidders post and Newmans actions were.
