Kent Crayford Kestrels SDL Champions 2018

Recommended Posts

A little surprised that nobody in officialdom has posted here. Following Sunday's triple-header the Kestrels cannot be caught now so become the first Kent team (as per tannoy announcements) to win a league title since 1978.

Not the greatest of meetings with the main interest seemingly being to see if Alex Spooner (a class above) could beat Paul Hurry's NL track record Although going close he failed, but regularly lowered the SDL record, on his way to a 27 point maximum, from his 9 rides..

Kent beat Exeter 24 - 12, Weymouth  25-11 and Isle of Wight 28 - 8.

No away riders won a heat with Exeter's Adam Sheppard's  three second places being the best.

Biggest shock would have been if Kent Kestrels had not won the SDL this year however they had a job to do and it was completed. The benefit of extra track time really started to show throughout the meetings and had James Laker been available over Palmer it could have been bigger wins. Hats off to Spooner for completing his full house again, really benefiting from the NL and made no silly mistakes. Fair play to all the opposition teams who all turned up and gave it a go despite the powerhouse Kestrels side.

The fact that these meetings at iwade are fully licensed events. Surely they should be listed in the official BSPA fixture list.
