Very credible showing from Workington last night. Certain Workington riders are probably riding one position above their level. Troy 5 and Zischke in the middle order. 2, 4 and the reserves all impressed me at times last night. Glasgow's top two came to the rescue last night. Howarth was excellent and Bomber was well Bomber. Be interesting to see if Nagel returns this week.

Against Belle Vue last week, there was a group of Australian visitors on the centre green that he found appropriate to take the p*as out of, everyone around us found it cringeworthy with the cliched insulting jibes.

Regardless of what position hes riding at for me just watching him on track you can see how poor he is. Absolutely no aggression in his riding, not a great gater and then just gives up. Him and Smith were embarrassingly bad last night.

I think it works like this: Rules state that for an unauthorised absence the replacement is a no facility guest [ i.e. 75% guest]. That is the default position. What a club may then do is declare the rider to be withholding his services and only then do they become eligible for a 100% full fat guest, and as a consequence at that point the rider receives a ban.

While I agree Hagon should have done better, perhaps the reason his average is so low, is that he's a reserve riding at number 2 & sometimes 3? Progress would've been keeping his average in a tougher position, but even that didn't happen. Of course this now means he's got a better chance of finding a team place next year.

So what are going to get this week? Is Barker going to be fit, will the rest of the team show some effort, will the team manager demand that the crowd get covered in dust and a blue groove appears before heat 4, or something else.

Enjoyable competetive meeting tonight with some top racing. Heats 7 and 14 very influential for the Comets.The Tigers turned what looked like a 3-3 into a 5-1 in heat 7 and what looked like a certain 1-5 in heat 14 into a 2-4 with a great last turn from Leon Flint although we thought Jye still pipped him but the transponder didn't agree. Well done both teams for some excellent entertainment.

I really would have thought Hagon would have kicked on this year. Especially as a lot of the reserves are 3rd division standard, but he has flattered to deceive. His average for a No2 is pretty dire.
