Harris Threatens To Quit Team Gb
Fromafar replied to JT's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I would agree, anybody with his back -up Team would struggle given their track record. But he seems happy with them and thats all the counts. -
Agree he put a lot of money into it.Seemed too get upset with riders and fans all to easily from what you read.
-
Think that would be a good move if it came off,a change of ownership could renew a lot of old fans interest IMO.Denham has had his day best let someone else give it a go.

Is Speedway Too Expensive Now ?
Fromafar replied to Super Blue's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Regarding whether speedway is an expensive sport Ithink you have to factor in the speedway has always been known as a family sport ,which IMO puts different perspective on it.That might be a reason that a lot of fans find it expensive. The Berwick Promotion must take great credit for recognising this fact in their reduced admission prices +u/16 getting in free when accompanied by an Adult. That is a huge reduction to a Family. -

Berwick V Glasgow Sat 29th Sept 7pm Premier Challenge Trophy
Fromafar replied to Normski's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
This is a hard group to figure out who will win out of the 3. On paper I would say Redcar.Berwick are weak in the 3rd Heat Leader spot IMO and having only one decent reserve does not not help . -

Sorry to see him go he has been a great ambassador for the sport and should be recognised as one of the speedway greats IMO, I think the injuries or the last couple have taken the edge of him and probably played a big part in his decision.I think he gave a hint in one of his interviews at Vojens that he recognised was not he force he was and his best GP days were behind him.Good luck to him in the rest of his career. -
No problem

I do believe that missing rider and guests and missing riders for various reasons affect attendances, unfortunatey its just taken for granted as part and parcel of the sport nowadays. There will be a few riders wanting a Champioship medal as have been a guest depending on who wins the league, as a professional sport it just does it no favours attracting new fans for the long term IMO.Radical review or the sport is required.
-
Apologies you are correct.Berwick are at Glasgow on the 30th
-
I will ,Thanks

Berwick website has Berwick at Glasgow next Sunday the 29th ? unless things have changed and they are doing 2meetings in 1day which seems unlikely but not impossible if start times were altered
-
I was just really trying to highlight the point that if a rider of that calibre can negociate that kind of deal ,speedway is in trouble IMO.Like Tsunami says there will be a standard that Promoters work from regarding visiting riders. All promotions will have to fork out different amount of money even for points depending on what various riders demands are. Then they have all the extras, flights, bikes, signing on ,accomodation ect.I think the time has come when Promoters have to get tough with rider demands or there wont be many viable tracks around.Ps You cant really blame the rider . Also interesting in this weeks Star regarding Ryan Fisher he sent Sheffield his Terms but never got a reply and I think most knowledgeable supporters can guess why.

Being Honest I wasn't sure if it would pay off when Berwick announced it.It has certainly had an effect at Berwick definately noticeable increase in attendance.John Anderson comment on the website today is relevent I would say in the fact that letting under 16's in free when acompanied with a Adult makes it viable for a whole Family to attend whereas paying for ALL tha family would not be possible in a lot of Households.Being the shrewd business people that the Berwick Promotion now that they do their own catering and bar helps make up for the shortfall quite a bit I would imagine.Sincerly hope you get adecent attendance for the rest of the season and Iwill be making the effort to get to the Berwick fixture as I do enjoy the racing at Worky.
