Steve Johnston Speedway Testimonial - Coventry, 22nd June 2008, 1pm

Recommended Posts

Thanks Phil - Havent had a chance on this one yet but the press release is as follows:

******PRESS RELEASE******

THE JOHNO TESTIMONIAL: Coventry, 22nd June 2008, 1pm

Two further names have been announced for Johno's big meeting – they are Premier League star CARL STONEHEWER (Workington) and Eastbourne's fast-improving Australian CAMERON WOODWARD.

Stoney's inclusion should ensure a travelling band of Comets to watch their legend match his skills against the top boys once again.

Although Cameron is a fellow Aussie he says "I didn't really know Johno back home as he lived a long way from me. However I'm very pleased to be asked to ride in his meeting and to get some more practise at Coventry!"

RIDERS ANNOUNCED SO FAR: LEIGH ADAMS, SCOTT NICHOLLS, JASON CRUMP, CHRIS HOLDER, TAI WOFFINDEN, JOE SCREEN, FREDDIE LINDGREN, DAVID HOWE, MIKAEL MAX, RORY SCHLEIN, JASON LYONS, BILLY JANNIRO, STEVE JOHNSTON, CARL STONEHEWER, CAMERON WOODWARD. DEMONSTRATION RIDE BY PETER COLLINS.

(Note that previously announced riders Greg Hancock and Chris Harris have been forced to withdraw – Greg has his son's christening and Chris has a Polish fixture).

*****STOP*****

Love the comment about Greg not attending now. You can just hear the argument at home when he put it on the calendar!!!:lol::lol:

Thanks for the update.....and to Phil also.

Family comes 1st i suppose but as for Chris, bloody Poles

Looks a good line up, hope all goes well for johno. Remeber him when he started at sheffield in 1992, with the long bushy hair and he was very wild, allover the track, but a great character :approve:

No Bomber :(

Glad Stoneys there though :)

My worry is - is this one of the individual meets that Bomber has signed up for (I know he did this for a few meetings ages ago) - or is it League. If its league will more need to pull out.

I now know how frustrating it is getting riders to confirm with other meetings suddenly being thrown at them so I hope Chris is a one off.

But to be honest - The line up isnt important - its all about Steve having a good day

Interesting point.Hopefully it's an individual.

I see your point about the line-up, though i personally want to see Johno have the best day not just a good one, he deserves it.

Bomber has Intar Lazur Ostrów vs GTŻ Grudziądz on that day.

Looks like a full programme of I liga and II liga fixtures in Poland on June 22, however E-liga fixtures are on Friday June 20.

Off to buy the Ladyshave now Bryn. I remember Johno with the real jobbie at the Cov Dinner Dance. Poor old Scott was left Mohican style when Johno ran out of Charge!!!

Look out Brynbach - I found the (missing) Link!! No, it wasn't Doolan, I'd hidden it behind the PORN button.

Anyhow, a Tenner is winging its way over to you, Sandie; five for the Shave and a haircut and five to cover a glass of Bryn's favourite Aftershave - Essence de Bundy!

Just be careful with the Shaving Cream!

PRESS RELEASE

THE JOHNO TESTIMONIAL: Coventry, 22nd June 2008, 1pm

The search is on – to find every Testimonial Steve Johnston has ever ridden in!

A list is being compiled for his testimonial programme by supporter Darren Kelsall, but the Aussie star can’t remember how many he has been in. Darren has found 41 so far, which is probably already more than any other rider has ever done.

Leigh Adams said “He’s Mr Testimonial, isn’t he?” and the list will prove that. Now his fellow riders will ensure that it is pay-back time for Johno.

Anyone who can help with the final list by reminding us of Testimonials Johno has ridden in should email darren.kelsall1@ntlworld.com

RIDERS ANNOUNCED SO FAR: LEIGH ADAMS, SCOTT NICHOLLS, JASON CRUMP, CHRIS HOLDER, TAI WOFFINDEN, JOE SCREEN, FREDDIE LINDGREN, DAVID HOWE, MIKAEL MAX, RORY SCHLEIN, JASON LYONS, BILLY JANNIRO, STEVE JOHNSTON, CARL STONEHEWER, CAMERON WOODWARD. DEMONSTRATION RIDE BY PETER COLLINS.

Well he defo rode in Thorpy's at Hull in 2004. He also rode in an individ event at Hull in 2005 and was booked primarily because he was available, to add spice to the line-up and he also wanted to test some equipment. He rode really well, was competitive and banged in some points end of you might think? Not a bit of it. Being Johno he put himself about in the pits, got involved with any rider having probs, spoke to others about set-ups and riding the track even after the meet he was helping and advising juniors & 2nd halfers having a spin. I spoke to him and what you see is defo what you get: a really positive, enthusiastic guy who happens to ride speedway and you would be proud to call him your mate. Hope he has great day....

It depends what the definition of 'testimonial' is. He rode in Garry Steads meeting didn't he, but is that a testimonial as such?
