George Stancl Farewell Meeting - 27th Sept 2010

Recommended Posts

If anyone has time or has a full program... Would they be able to give heats and rider scores by any chance? I see Kenni Larsen top scored for Newcastle but im really interested to see who he beat and who he lost out to lol. Espcially when he came up against Kenneth Bjerre! Thanks in advance. :)

Well the scoring got a bit random at the end of the meeting. For some reason in heat 16 three of the riders (Kenni, Schlein and Suchanek) were all on tactical rides.

Basically Kenni won his first 3 rides. In his last programmed ride he was second behind Bjerre - but was on a tactical so got 4 points.

They were both in the final but Kenni came down on the second bend after a close first bend with Bjerre. The race was allowed to continue and Bjerre won, with Kenni getting back on the bike to keep going.

Newcastle 29: Larsen 13 (3,3,3,4*), Lemon 8 (3,1,1,3), Hawkins 2 (1,0,1,0) Kerr 6 (0,3,F,3)

Glasgow 27: Bjerre 11 (2,2,4*,3), Tully 1 (R,0,R,1), Wright 4 (2,0,0,2) Grajczonek 11 (1,1,3,6*)

Wolves 25: Suchanek 3 (0,1,2,0), D.King 8 (3,3,2,0), Howe 7 (2,2,1,2) Wethers 7 (1,2,3,1)

Sheffield 23: Schlein 9 (2,3,2,2*), Franc 8 (3,T,3,2), Nieminen 4 (R,2,1,1), Summers 2 (1,1,0,0), McKinna 0

Some, shall we say for fun tacticals at the end.

Track held up very well considering the awful weather today so well done to all. Fantastic to see Sam Ermolenko flying around in a respectable 66.9. Still got the style and would probably still hold his own in the PL.

Most significant performance though might have been by Chris Kerr who looked very quick as well and could be a real problem for the Diamonds over the next few weeks, especially at reserve.

A thoroughly enjoyable evening , despite the weather's best efforts to ruin things . Though i thought the track held up very well .

Was shaping up to be a cracker in the Grand Final , but Kenni just over-cooked it coming out the 2nd bend and came down .

But the evening was a fitting tribute to a great rider and a really nice guy and the crowd looked pretty good despite the elements .

Thanks for the memories George :approve:

A very enjoyable evening which the weather tried to spoil but failed. All riders gave it a real good go with some very good races. George's dad seemed to be enjoying himself turning back the years.

Great night George well done and thanks for the greats years in a Diamonds race jackets both a fully fledged Diamond and as a guest.

PS. Did anyone snap up any of the race jackets on offer in the bar afterwards??

All the racejackets went for at least £25 in the bar afterwards (even Adam McKinna's reserve jacket in a re-run of his auction after it had been rapidly "sold" to a very enthusiastic bid of £3.50 from Craig Cook the first time round !!) ... top prices were £260 for Kenneth Bjerre & £180 for Kenni Larsen

As others have said this was a great night of speedway. As the start time approached, one always felt that it would start raining but fortunately the light drizzle there was was not heavy enough or for long enough duration to mess the track and the riders vision.

A quality field had been assembled and only Lee Complin(replaced by Richie Harkins)and Rene Bach (injured) and Suchanek brought in with Lemon moving over.

Meeting started by the riders in the first race lining up for a proper start but the wrong way round. :o Good laugh and pleased they didn't go for the 4th bend with them footpegs on the wrong way.

The track had had to be skimmed at 1.00pm and looked superb given the conditions. Interestingly, with minimum grading and the 'wheel', the track hardly changed for the whole of the meeting with even times right to the end races.

KB having not raced on it for over 6 years found his settings difficult till his later races when he did the business despite being overtaken convincingly by Pepe in one race. Chris Kerr had a good night, after a bad first ride, but still had his obligitory fall in his third ride. Danny King is so fast, and with this performance on a little track and his sterling performance last year at Peterborough in the WC, one has to wonder why he is not a consistant and better rider than he is.

Never thought that the meeting would go the full distance, but with a sense of urgency and good and prompt refereeeing by Graham Reeve, the meeting reached it's normal end with the top scores race with KB winning and Kenni dropping it on the second bend trying that bit too much to beat another Dane.

Special message to the match races with George, Jiri and Sam. Jiri, on a special rebuilt Jawa, looked very comfortable and put in a decent performance being on track with George for the very first time in their lives, and especially because of his age and lack of practice for the event.

Superb auction hosted by Dalbers, who extracted all he could from the assembled gallery and ensured that the visiting Czech fans went home with empty pockets. Pity about the TOON helmet but I was not going to outbid a Czech for it.

Excellent organisation by George, Julie, Steff, Steve B, ably assisted by Lauren and Alice on the night, with special mention to the riders, team managers, other helpers, sponsors, Newcastle Speedway and even Brough Park personell for allowing the 'afters' to continue well after licensing hours.

A great night with fans from all sorts of tracks, especially Glasgow and Wolverhampton. Even met up with KJ, which was nice, as we haven't seem or heard enough of him this year. :approve: The turnout was extremely good, given the weather and the forecast, but I think everyone went home very satisfied with the evening and especially George and family of course. :D

Great meeting George mate I hope you enjoyed it as much as the fans did, mind I must say I still think you could cut it in a team as I also feel Sam could also, so is there still a chance you'll make a come back? (Heres hopingohmy.gificon_smile_approve.gif ).

Great also to see the likes of Garry Stead as well IMO he's a pure legend as is George himselfbiggrin.gif .

Now bring on the Brummies tomorrow he's hoping the weather is kind and a replay of the PT Result at Perry Bar!!!!smile.gif
