Belle Vue V Sheffield Playoff Semi

Recommended Posts

I can only go off the official line and not hearsay or opinion re the Dudley match.

"Meeting abandoned due to curfew. Result stands."

I can't remember a GP without riders hitting ruts and veering off course. It was AJ in the last one, indeed on the run up to that meeting Hancock hurt his knee in Poland when he hit a rut. Theres no point in debating this point as I will always say tracks have ruts while you think they are smooth.

Re Stoke and Kings Lynn match. This was the night with about 6 or 7 falls over 30 races. I think that's quite good at this level but again we will have to disagree on that.

I've been to all but 4 current UK tracks plus many that have since closed and a fair few abroad so I feel well placed to judge whether a meeting is "fair" or not. Kirky Lane can be good and bad just like any other track, indeed the last time we were on Sky it was discussed as one of the better tv matches this season. It is unfair to label a track such as Belle Vue as always producing dreadful meetings.

Whilst I agree that Scunthorpe and Milldenhall are better circuits, that is not the criteria used to determine champions.

The thing is I agree about raising the profile of Belle Vue and recognise the efforts of David Gordon and Chris Morton over the last few seasons. The sadness is that the appalling (and occasionally dangerous)track surface destroys almost all regard I have for the club.

You do seem to keep going back to BV for more. Why do you keep paying and travelling to watch such poor meetings or do you get in for free enjoy their hospitality and then come on here and slag them off thats the only reason why I can think that you go.

BV have a crap track Stoke have poor team spirit anybody else you want to tear limb from limb while you are at it.

It wouldnt be Mildenhall who have just put the airfence up today at the end of the season who excels I imagine. I would ask John Resch about that maybe he has a different opnion

What a pathetic post!! Halifaxtiger is speedway through and through, travels the length and breath of the country watching the sport he loves. He helps riders where he can and also is ready to help at the track or on it! He certainly is no freeloader! Also the airfence is not yet up at Mildenhall!

I didnt say he was a freeloader I just cant understand why he would pay week in week out to attend a track he obviously dislikes, the only solution I could come up with was, he doesnt. He may help out but he is mixing and socialising with people who the next day are going to get a slagging off on here. Obviuosly after reading his comments on the stoke thread there seemed to be a pattern emerging as he proceded to do the same on the Stoke thread. Anyway I dont know him I can only go on what he posts that can be a problem sometimes on here people can be taken out of context.

That's a question my wife keeps asking me, believe me. She doesn't get it either.

I have seen 7 matches at Belle Vue this season (I should say that from 2004-2010 I have been 6 times - over that time I have been to Weymouth more often - despite the fact it is by far the closest track to my home).I sponsor two NL riders and have a lot of mates at Mildenhall, so Hackney, King's Lynn, Stoke (double header) and Mildenhall were all for the purpose of being with friends and seeing my lads ride more than anything. I went to the EL Poole match because it was cheap and I could see Ward & Holder, and the play offs because I planned to see them all. That leaves Dudley, and I really wish I hadn't gone to that.

If Belle Vue beat Scunny, I'll be back again.

I got in for nothing when King's Lynn were there because I did them a very big favour that day and Dale Allitt responded by signing me in. The remaining times I paid. I also paid at Buxton despite the fact that I need not have and at Isle of Wight I actually got in for nothing and then went out and paid to get back in (on both occasions to young Mr Evans utter disbelief). That is because those clubs have a precarious financial existence and I have no right to make it worse. On any other occasion when I have been signed in, I have given the rider concerned my entry fee.

I call it as I see it (always have),I can say that my opinions are utterly objective with the best interests of the sport at heart and I don't really care whether others like my views or not. Usually I find it is those who are biased who take exception to them. I have had a pop at Stoke (sort of) and Belle Vue this week, its true. I suggest you read my comments about Sheffield, Plymouth and Mildenhall because that will serve to prove that I give credit where it is due and criticism where it is not.

Crap tracks are a death sentence for British Speedway and Belle Vue is the worst in Britain (possibly by far). Bearing in mind that I have been to all the others bar 5 this season (and over the last two seasons all bar Eastbourne)I think I can speak with some authority on the subject.

I am not sure what Stoke's team spirit has been like this season but anyone who was there on Saturday is probably aware that there were unpleasant scenes before the start of the meeting which almost certainly had a radical effect on that spirit and subsequently their performance. I am not sure that I was 'mixing and socialising' with Malcolm Vasey (who I have a great deal of time and respect for)on Sunday but we did have a chat, I expressed my thoughts on what had happened and ended up by buying one of his books.

By the way, the Dudley match was abandoned at 10.20. The curfew is at 10.30.

Thank you for taking the time to explain, I'm not fishing to find out if you pay or not that is down to the individual and how they use it. If I don't like something then I don't go but obviously I didnt take into account you may have been going to watch the opposition.

Anyway I'm sure teams and riders you help are greatful for your support and the rest are greatful of your admission fee.

Long may it continue.

I'd like to vouch for Halifaxtiger too, he may have horrendous legs but he is the most genuine, friendly and honest fellow you could wish to meet. Did I mention his legs? :D

It was dark though as it took George half the meeting to find the stand lights !
