Thinking of visiting plymouth this season for the first time. Probably for the derby against somerset. Is the track easy to find? I will be travelling from wiltshire.

Pretty much, just off the main A38 as you approach the city from the east.

All the info you need here:

That's very kind thanks. What is the track like? I am guessing by the race times it is pretty small. Is it a racers track would you say, or more of a specialist track like perhaps eastbourne or lakeside?

As a Robin now exiled in Torbay and who has visited on a couple of occasions, it is very small and compact. If you stand on the 1st/2nd bend you are right on top of the action and likely to get filled in with shale. It's not a huge track and there aren't likely to be many last to first passes but it's ok.

I would say its more of a trappers track, with the exception, of Barker who was different gravy on the 2 occasions I visited..

Thanks blueboy. I am really looking forward to it. I try to get to somerset and newport to supplement my desire for extra speedway after my thursday night fix at swindon. With ashworth and barker at plymouth this year it should make for exciting racing.

I'd say that is a pretty fair assessment. You can get pretty close to the racing which adds to the experience. I enjoy it a lot, but then I guess I'm biased

I prefer it close to the racing like somerset peterborough etc. Sounds like plymouth got pretty good crowds last year too. A top 3 of barker ashworth and boxall looks ok to me. Don't much about glanz or holder.

I will pick and choose my matches to attend with Robins meetings being 1st choice. With fixtures on a Friday that is definetly a bonus but certainly hope to attend at least once a month this year. Ashworth and Barker will certainly be good for lots of points but fear the Devils will struggle lower down.

I am also looking to go to the OTA for the first time, probably for the Robins Challenge.

Small, but on my experiences last season its one of the best racing tracks in Britain :approve:

Ota is a great little track. Real fast open throttle stuff. Decent facilities nowadays too. Leigh adams described it as a `fast little track` too.

Could do with a couple of straights between the corners in my opinion, but maybe you recognise this yourself as your name "english roundabout" seems to suggest

Not exactly true although land owner is a member of the speedway owners.

The Hancocks own Somerset Speedway they also own the land

By comparision the SBA makes the Rye House track look like a long track venue

Think you'll find the speedway owned by a consortium of which Bill Hancock is a member.

So here we are at last, just what everyone has ranted and raved about........Plymouth Speedway is for sale.

Where are you all now...............checking your bank accounts, by all intents and purposes the club should now be in one of the forum members capable hands

Well I never, you can complain, moan and groan(it`s your right) but oh dear. Oh dear, do it dont just spout about wanting a new owner. Yes you can, but can you really be the one to make that difference

Good luck Mike with your new track, hope it`s as successful as the one the Plymouth knockers nearly bought from you :P

After his track record he will need more than luck with a new track, more like divine intervention  mind you he has got a big family, that's about a twenty that will go, and the bar staff :t:
