Bob Kilby Memorial Meeting Sunday 18th March 2012

Recommended Posts

No issues with holding a meeting for a club legend, but it seems counter-productive to hold it on the same day as another meeting that is going to be going after the same riders to ride in it. And, for Reliant Robin, it's not the first Sunday of the season, that would be the week before. Why not hold it on the Saturday night? That way, any riders who fancy doing both can do both?

Fairly confident that it is the first sunday of the season, with only the Ben Fund meeting being allowed to take place before 15th March to avoid any clashes

Fair enough. Still, if Swindon are allowed to run, would Saturday not have worked? It just seems silly that you are going to have 2 events, wanting to attract the same riders, and there will be a decent section of fans who would want to attend both. Someone will lose out.

Is it really that big a problem, there are enough riders around for two strong line-ups ...

Nothing against Shane Parker, but for me there is only one 'legend' and that is Bob Kilby, even though he drove straight past me when I was hitching once...

I agree altho unfortunate some things cant be helped especially when its a difficult month before the first gp...whats peed me off is the attitude of someone on parks thread criticising swindon for the clash when they dont have the facts and looking at turning it into a parker v kilb debate..quite pathetic and very disrepectful...both meetings will be great and comparing both guys and meetingd is all very needless!! =-O

So why should they move their event?

Why can't Parker choose a different date?

Bob sadly passed away in January 2009 so not particularly accurate and even more disrespectful to imply memorials could have been held in advance of this. Two meetings held so far both originally set for Thursdays 18/3/10 and 22/9/11, although the first was rained off and only then rescheduled for the following Sunday. Never let facts get in the way of a good dig though.

I would not expect Bob's family to be forced to stick to the established Thursday staging dates for this meeting though if they can be more successful by running on the Sunday. Nor would I expect Shane to be forced to change a long established date but I am not trying to create an anti Parker thread either.

These are not a GP where we want to see the top riders but should be where respect to both riders can be given. If you genuinely want to show support therefore it would not depend on the field but the desire to contribute to a decent pay day. Although it is 3 times the distance I will be going to Owlerton on that date and not Swindon but I can't imagine anyone else from my locality going to either, even with the world’s best 16 riders in the field. To have two different dates would not make one jot of difference to attendances at either so let’s stop putting the memory of one great rider in direct conflict with a farewell for a universally popular one. And for anyone who says they want to show their respect by being able to attend both meetings it would show more respect to go to one and pop a £50 note in an enveope and send to the other track as a contribution to the fund. I've done it when I can't get to a meeting I would like to attend to ensure that the benefactor didn't lose out by my non attendance. It's so easy.

Fixture clashes happen all the time, it is speedway. Having these two meetings running the same day is no different to an EL club racing the same day as a GP is on.

And the EL matches have guests and R/R. That'd be great for either of these meetings :t:

Wouldnt it be great if they could get Jason Crump to turn out for Bob? i would pay extra and would generate more money for the gate.Didnt know Bob very well but was a really good bloke great rider and he deserves it.I hope Shane,s day goes well also as he deserves it too.
