24th August 2013 Gp Challenge @ Poole

Recommended Posts

Danny King didn't even take part in the qualifiers so he should not be allowed to race at all in this challenge imo .... would have been 'fairer' to pick a British rider who did take part (Nicholls, Harris or Kennett). Even beter would be to scrap this rule ;)

Oh well, will be a great meeting though, can't wait :-)

As far as I recall, the qualifiers from the UK are decided by finishing positions at the British Final. In 2012, Danny crashed out and therefore didn't get to do the qualifiers in 2013. The only three Brits who took part were Kennett, Nicholls and Harris, but you could argue that anyone who entered the 2012 British championships did "take part" in the 2013 GP qualifiers.

I agree with Phil Rising, there should be no wild card through to the final. Totally unfair for someone to be parachuted in 5 rides from qualification and it's not as if Danny's presence in the meeting is going to add much to the attendance.

I can't quite understand why this wildcard this year is raising anything more than an eyebrow.

The presence of the wildcard in the rule book is entirely intentional and only exists to operate in this situation.

A third world nation who cannot provide a qualifier is given a free space for the purpose of giving the home crowd a reason for turning up.

They have to have the same chances as all other starters otherwise their participation in the meeting would be so pointless as to negate their 'draw' value.

The thing is we usually think that this facility will only get used by one of 'those' nations.

The crappy ones.

The Italians, Bulgarians or Romanians. You know the sort.

Where their riders don't stand a chance of qualifying anyway.

But then the truth is WE are one of those crappy nations.

And frankly Danny's chances of qualifying are actually probably less than any previous similar wildcard.

Lets just remember this is not an unforeseen flaw in a perfect system.

Far from it.

This EXACTLY why the revered rulemakers created the abomination.

Surely an enterprising national federation if allowed would contact a company like ITV who think of ITV4 as there sports channel and see if they want to show it live or record it for an hour long highlights package.I know you would have to jump through a few FIM hoops but the package could also be sold on. What are the viewing figures for GPs on Eurosport i bet ITV4 would like those probably get more as on terrestial tv.

According to Hancocks Twitter the USA have been granted a wild card for the GP Challenge. If true either BSI are worried Hancock may not qualify as a right for next year and they won't be able to interest the USA in holding a GP or selling the TV rights or Mr Ford wants to put a few extra on the gate.

Either way it's a farce and totally unfair to every rider that had the balls to enter the qualifying at the start of the season.

and your surprised?

The wild-card's get handed out to riders who don't even bother with the qualifiers.

WAS very anti Jurica Pavlik getting a wild card last year, especially after being eliminated in an earlier round. Nothing against Danny King, but same reasoning applies to him. Quite wrong in my view that a home rider in the Challenge can fluke a place in the SGP from just one meeting when everyone else has been through several rounds.

The irony being that Pavlic failed to qualify in 2012 and nicked someone else place. Yet in 2013 did qualify but has had his place nicked by Danny King!

You could equally argue that Harris, Nicholls and Kennett have had a chance and failed so don't deserve a wildcard. As pointed out, King got injured.

That just cant be true. If I read the page right, that started from a joke by Ryan Fisher.

The facts are comical enough that they were bound to inspire further satire.

Przemyslaw Pawlicki is injured and replaced by Timo Lathi. Peter Kildemand is now Reserve. Draw II for the Challenge. Lahti replaces PrmPaw in the lineup. Finland to have a rider and a GP in 2014! :approve: The reason why Tipu jumps to the lineup from second reserve is that Prem was in his quali so he takes his spot. Same happened with Katajisto a few years ago in the U19 Euro final. GO TIMO! IMG_3224.jpg

Timo looked very impressive in the televised Danish meeting on Wednesday. He will not you down on the day. It's a tough meeting though! KK, Bjerre and NKI will take some beating. Good luck to him. Regards. Alan.

Zagar and Iversen look like getting an automatic spot for Top 8 in 2013.

If they ride to form by finishing on the podium the Poole top 5 could qualify got the GP with 6th /7th as reserves for the series.. That will make it a proper scrap for places. Hopefully the track will produce good racing and not reward those 1st out the gate.

He already did circles around KK in Holsted. He'll have two blue gates and when he brings his continental set to Wimborne Road, everything is possible. Just ask Zorro.

But if Hancock and Gollob are 9th and 10th in the GPs I bet that they get Zagar and Iversens places and that Zagar and Iversen are giving the places from the qualifiers. The FIM/BSU will do what suits them, ask Ales Dryml.
