Can't help feeling the original intention of this thread has been lost somewhere...

Suirprised no one's mentioned Cyril Quick, who if my memory serves me correctly, very often wasn't.

On the other hand there was Alec Slow who rode for Lea Bridge. Unlike Cyril Quick I believe Alec did live up to his name....And no, I don't mean he was smart!

Pole Henryk Glucklich always had a big smile on his face....and Glucklich is German for 'happy' !!

Was that a coincidence or perhaps Glucklich was a nickname!

For the Bees

Ole Soederman,

Henryk Zyto,

Anti Pajari (The only rider to scrape his footrest all around the old metal Ipswich fence)

Peter (I used to deliver his papers at home) Brough, he never did bring Archie along

Vic "Smiler" Emms

Derek "Dabber" Tailby,

Leicester gave us

Charlie "Baby face" Barsby

"Big 'ead" "Hurri" Ken McKinley

and who could forget the likes of

"Howdy" Byford

"Split" Waterman

Jimmy Squibb

visiting riders the home fans all loved to hate

Weymouth has given us

"Gentleman Geoff" Swindells

"Mighty Martin" Yeates

"Super Simon" Wigg

The list could go on - I have had so many favourites (and not so favourites) over the years, all who have really given value for money and so many were "characters" - something the sport lacks these days.
