Glasgow 2014

Recommended Posts

It is fair criticism that the racing quality in recent years at Ashfield has been nothing like it was ten plus years ago. Can anything be done to the track to reverse the malaise? Who knows.

the entrances are governed by that annoying football park in the middle . I've often wished we would do what Bradford used to do , and have astro turf in the corners which could be lifted for the speedway .

To be fair, Glasgow have done their best in the circumstances - the days of the aptly nicknamed 'Squaredome' are gone.

If a trackman of the quality of Doc Bridgett does get involved, there's no reason why Ashfield can't be one of the better racing tracks.

He is only there to show stewart the basics for the first month of the season! then it's all down to Stewart

Remember the last time Doc done the track at Glasgow they booted him out because the tiggers thought he made the track to suit the Edinburgh riders!

Only in the west!

He's been back and forth doing our track a few times in the last couple of seasons . But i agree  when we started going down the " home advantage " road , from about 2005 , we ruined a great racetrack . It wasn't the fair track that caused so many home defeats , it was assembling weak sides .

Stewart Dixon to do the track now also? Oh dear!

Wasn't it his idea to get home track advantage and change the track which seemed to lower the standard of racing. Just have to look back to 2000 to about 2004 how good the racing was with inside and outside racing lines. After the changes it became really a one line track and pretty much gate and go with the odd pass.

Its weird, when you lot first moved into Ashfield the track had a great reputation. It was know as a great track. I only made it up there once, would have been 2005 for a Glasgow/Newport meeting. It rained all the way from Workington to about 5 miles from Glasgow then it stopped but the track was obviously wet but as Newport were on a Scottish tour they got the meeting on. It was a stupendous meeting with passing on the inside and the outside by almost everyone involved in that meeting and I'm pretty sure the meeting went down to the wire too. Though by heat 15 thanks to the hospitality of the locals I was a little merry. Its a shame to read in recent years it gone form one of the best to one of the worst it seems. Hopefully curing that problem will help bring in a few more fans and help Glasgow in their bid for survival. Hard to believe it was 15 years ago now that it all kicked off at Newport when Emil Lindqvist clearly didn't take out Sean Courtney and Will Bevridge attacked him:D

The various contraversies is what used to make Newport v Glasgow clashes down there memorable . Funny how it was never as fiesty when the teams met up here .

Will the shape remain the same after an airfence is installed? Will the outside fence be pushed back to accomodate the barrier, or will it just be plonked down in front of the existing fence, narrowing the bends by a couple of feet?

If you have been to our happy little circuit , you'll know the outside fence cant possibly be pushed back any more else it will be out in the street . How wide is an airfence when pumped up ? maybe about a couple of feet wide at most . Hardly going to make a great deal of difference .

Are the promotion in need of any muck rakers for the coming season?

Aye. Some just drop in their wee hand grenade questions knowing the answer already.

I remember that being suggested a few years ago, when Ashfield got promoted, so pitch specifications were more rigid. I believe plans got to a pretty advance stage until the football authorities stepped in and quashed any hope of it. Shame because with a slightly wider entrance, and the banking we have now the track would be splendid.

Having said that, you can have the best purpose built track, with the perfect shape in the land. If it not prepared well it doesn't matter a jot.

Is there any reason why the old greyhound scoreboard can't be knocked down?

We're always told that's the reason the third bend breaks up because it doesn't get sunlight and remains softer than the rest of the track. Seems daft to keep it when there is never going to be greyhounds at Ashfield again.
