Elite League Draft Riders

It will always be a consideration otherwise for it all to work. No promoter in the North is going to go for as rider living say in Eastbourne.

But won't this create further inequality. Four teams already are comfortably placed. If the remaining six teams are restricted even further then it won't work.

 

And if Coventry pass on Garrity (unlikely), is he prepared to ride at BV after the apparent falling out? How many riders may be unavailable to BV?

 

I suspect the riders agreement requires them to ride where selected. If not we have a real can of worms.

 

Anyway Eastbourne is a lot closer than Poland and that has never worried the promoters !!!

If you look at the club most affected, then you'll work out why the location based scenario has been dropped but the protected asset idea kept.

Nope. A rider will go to a track he is happy to go to, and not to a track he was allocated to, or selected by a promotion. The whole idea is to appease riders to move, and to give everyone a fair chance. There will always be inequality, if you are looking for it.

You'd have to be barking mad not to want Garrity, a rider who would have got 5 in the EL last season had he been riding in it. with 2 protected rides then 2 rides against the reserves a second strings, plus one of the other guys easy rides he will score 10-11 a meeting even if the other guy scores 0. Or you would have two guys who score 3 or 4. ALWAYS, ALWAYS go with one good reserve and one not so good over two average. It gives you options for reserve changes.

Not disputing it, as I said, not looked at the indivdual riders involved in any detail.

 

In these cases its always a case of working out where the biggest drop off is and basing your picks on that.

Then the system would very quickly fall on its head.

 

As others have said, by agreeing to take part in the draft, the riders must be in agreement that they join the team that selects them.

I think that thinking is a little naive.

 

If there was an out-and-out future superstar in the draft,and Poole had first pick, do you really think they would ignore him just because he lived in,say, Sheffield?

Or can be added to the stand by list for when a rider is unavailable.

Should a rider be absent from a meeting, his team will be able to select any available lower-ranked rider as a guest.

Do we know if there are any rules for absences? That can always be a bone of contention. Does the NL rule still apply?......Any reason goes. NL promoters have rarely used it to their advantage. EL promoters could make some mileage out of it though.

 

At least we know who they are now. That should put an end to the endless speculation.

Just seen the announcement on the BSPA site. Whilst I am not sure NL riders in the EL is the best way forward, the way Phil Morris seems to have put this together seems unusually logical for a BSPA initiative. So kudos to all involved, I hope that the NL riders do now benefit from this. If this is all about development of young riders from the NL to top flight racing, what would be helpful is if there is some financial assistance from the BSPA to help these riders get the best equipment and mechanics to help them compete so there are no barriers preventing talent rising to the top.

What happens if say Coventry want Garrity but they can't agree terms, does this mean Garrity can't ride for any EL club.

I don't think there are any terms to be agreed.......They have all signed up, in writing, to what's on offer

My opinion:



First Round:


Coventry will show intent and take Garrity (2).


Belle Vue then have a toss up between Blackbird(4)/Nielsen(5) as next available rated riders or taking Steve Worrall (12) to ride with his brother and secure an early second round pick. They'll go with Blackbird (4), Worrall will be too much of a gamble.


Eastbourne will pick Nielsen (5) up.


Leicester will sign Steve Worrall (12) as all riders from 1-7 are now taken/protected and he is better than the available Starke (8), Jacobs (9), Perry (10) and Lambert (11). This also secures them an early pick in round 2.


Lakeside take protected asset Ellis (6).


Kings Lynn pick up protected asset Kerr (1).


Wolverhampton take protected asset Morris (7).


Swindon have a choice between Lambert (11) and local rider Reade (14). They take Lambert (11) as he has more experience and will be comfortable at Blunsdon.


Birmingham have pick of the rest as Poole will no doubt take asset Kyle Newman (3). They go for Lee Smart (13), a former Brummie and also giving them first pick for the second round.


Poole sign Kyle Newman (3).



Second Round:


Birmingham have pick of the bunch again and will take Joe Jacobs (9).


Leicester will have a choice between Starke (8) and Perry (10) the latter's bigger potential will see them take Perry (10).


Swindon will now take Ben Reade (14).


Wolverhampton will sign Starke (8) as the best rider left and he also knows Monmore Green from his time at Dudley.


Lakeside pick up local rider Ben Morley (18).


Eastbourne take Danny Halsey (16). A team mate of Nielsen at Mildenhall and no worse than the rest left.


Belle Vue have a choice between Hopwood (19) and Sarjeant (17) but plump for the latter as he has more potential.


Poole take Josh Bates (15) as the best of the riders left.


Coventry pick up Lewis Rose (20) as a rider on the up and expected to be riding in all three leagues in 2014.


Kings Lynn have four riders left to pick from and take Ritchings (22) who has more potential than Hopwood and is better than Clegg and Greenwood at present.



So that leaves:


Belle Vue: Blackbird, Sarjeant


Birmingham: Smart, Jacobs


Coventry: Garrity, Rose


Eastbourne: Nielsen, Halsey


Kings Lynn: Kerr, Ritchings


Leicester: Ellis, Morley


Poole: Newman, Bates


Swindon: Lambert, Reade


Wolverhampton: Morris, Starke

I don't think there are any terms to be agreed.......They have all signed up, in writing, to what's on offer

Are they all on the same money, what happens if one club picks a rider and decides to pay him peanuts.
