I'm not mad on the joker but it sure made a helluva meeting, and if you're going to scrap the joker you may as well scrap the tac subs too - theyre both there to keep the meeting alive and tonight was a prime example of it.

 

Yes GB did well to even get in the final but honestly, Harris should've helped Tai a bit more surely? Didn't expect much from the others tbh, but nobody else to pick really. Hopefully Rosco's 5 year plan isn't the same one that Rob Lyon had or the position could be vacant again....

 

Just allowing GB riders to compete in the Euro Championships would be a start

Cracking end to the meeting tonight, but the WTC is staring to lose it's lustre in my opinion.

Holding it every year doesn't help. The need for a home team to be riding so that the final has a decent crowd resulting in teams being seeded through - like Czecho last year - make it a mockery. Russia not taking it seriously for the past 2 years is a real shame as they were starting to make a real mark.

 

As for GB, we did well to win at Kings Lynn, but lets not forget that each year we have the massive advantage of (in effect) a home semi-final. That means every so often we are going to get direct to the final - but if we don't....

As soon as we travel overseas we are out of our depth. Primarily, this is because our riders just don't get exposed to that level of competition enough. I remember about 10 years ago Edward Kennett not riding for our Under 21 team because it would have meant him missing a home meeting on a Saturday at Rye and Len Silver justifying it by saying he would learn and earn more at Rye than he would beating Italians et al on some continental track. More recently we have riders like Garrity not entering qualifying rounds of the Under 21 championships. Under the stewardship of Phil Morris and Neil Vatcher things do look more promising and the fast track system may help deliver riders quicker.

But surely we have to embrace the European competitions as this at least will give our riders that experience of riding overseas. I'm sure riders like Peter Kildemand are benefiting greatly from such opportunities. To hear that someone like Craig Cook has only ever riden abroad once is staggering.

For too long we have been too inward looking and parochial and it is consequently no surprise that we struggle at the highest level.

If I were a bookie, and those were the teams, the odds I'd offer would be : Poland 2:1 fav. ; Denmark and Australia 5:2 and GB 5:1 .

 

Should be a close shout with Poland having the edge. All teams capable of winning races, but who'll win the most?

 

If you were a bookie you would be a poor one at those prices. ..... Australia could mix it but Denmark and Poland looked the better bets before had so if you had put £1000 on each you are gaurenteed to get either £3000 or £3500 back within a few hours

 

Australia won the most races ............ but finished third

 

 

 

I'd take some of GRWs 2/1 on Poland!! Could even be tempted by the 5/2 on Denmark too. As for Australia and GB I'd be looking for about 15 and 30 before I even thought about it personally.

General lethargy, lack of ambition?

Scared of not winning races?

Cost?

 

Surely if they want to progress to the top they MUST put themselves about! Learn get international experience on different tracks in different countries.

 

Or if they want to stay as a BIG FISH in a little pond stay racing in the EL/PL!

As long as we continue to ride around pokey little tracks playing second fiddle to Football and greyhounds we we never win an egg cup....Top level speedway now seems to be run on the big fast open tracks and we simply dont have the class,balls or machinery to do it

Absolutely. Craig Cook riding abroad only once in his career is staggering. These riders need to be advised much better by people who've been there and done it already. We are the only country who do nothing to help its own riders. In fact, we do more to HINDER them. Massive changes need making and have done for at least ten years, but while people treat it as "just a social event", then we'll continue banging our heads against a brick wall.

 

As I posted earlier, there are people out there who have vision and the nouse to improve the product, but the old guard continue to close ranks and hound them out through small-mindedness.

 

We have had sky coverage since 1999, yet STILL none of the leagues are sponsored. I started watching speedway in 1990 and there was a rickety trackshop with a couple of tables. Its now 2014, and its still a rickety trackshop with a couple of tables.

 

Sadly, speedway seems to not want help.

Ausies come here miles from home, lodge, work at it.

Poles come here and work hard (In all jobs not just speedway)

 

 

Andy Priaulx (Hillclimb Champion) Won Hillclimb Chamionship and wanted to move on (Get Better) Moved from Guernsey and lived in a caravan in a car park at Silverstone (For best part of 2 years) to work earn money and get practice and chase teams for a drive?!!? Now 4 times touring car champion. Or he could have stayed as a hillclimber (Big fish in a small pond)

 

They have to put themselves out and go get it!

Even years ago as most Speedway riders were Grasstrackers they used to travel to France, Germany, Belgium, Czech etc (Contacts and experience gaining)

Life has been made too easy for British riders by allowing them to ride in the EL and PL instead of riding in Sweden or Poland.

 

 

Ben Barker, Craig Cook, Richie Worrall etc should be looking at one league here (EL) and getting positions abroad but I can't fault them for getting money locally and ending up in their own bed each night as its decent money ...... but that's not the way to be as good as you possibly can be

The Joker is a great idea as it causes a meeting like yesterday to be hellishly exciting.

What a finish.

 

Our riders need to start putting themselves out a bit Woffy lived in a caravan for a while and look where he ended up.

It would help if the BSPA took an interest in rider development. We train everyone elses riders so what about some quid pro quo. Can't they get some kind of exchange deal with Poland etc?

Test matches would help both here and abroad.

Taking an interest in things like the pairs and SEC might not be a bad idea either.

 

We will never progress if all we do is send the likes of Stead, Bomber and King to represent us we need Garrity, Lambert and their ilk but we need to help them as well.

Look at Russia they would have probably danced the SWC if they were not in such a mess. Their riders get no help and look how that works out.

Invest and support the young riders and get them out of their comfort zone.

Ambition brings dozens of foreign lads to the UK every year but our lot seem stuck in their own little pond.

It's time those who want to be Tai Woffinden started to stand up and exert themselves or we will have the same thread for the WTC next year.

 

The lads who were there yesterday earned their spot so I don't begrudge them their moment in the sun but they should never have been in the team in the first p[ace except for Tai.

We whine about putting young kids in and say they were the best team we had but they did nothing. Even Tai so surely a bunch of kids getting thirds and fourths but learning something is better than what we ended up with yesterday?

Cant be right that the team that scores most 'real' points in a World Cup Final doesnt win. Total farce IMO.

But then Denmark would have won last year and Poland this so still one each.

 

But yes it's a silly thing to be doing at the top level of the sport.
