Been thinking about Billy Sanders with his memorial next week, with lots of 70's and 80's memorabilia on show.

What a golden era that was!

There are always songs I hear from time to time on the blower that take me back to those great days at Foxhall..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50xx1_CbJTI Booker T Time Is Tight

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6bsoyT86LE A Swingin safari. I can't remember if this is one I used to hear at the stadium, or whether it was the advertising theme on local radio (think it was radio orwell at the time?)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQqHCb16MNg And of course the obvious one, the much loved A Walk In The Black Forest

Are there any I've missed? Any tunes that remind anyone else of the great days of Billy's era?

Thanks for posting those brings back some wonderful memories!

I can remember a debate on here a few years back with one or two wanting to hear the return of a walk in the black forest, but others countering by saying we can't dwell on the past and we have to try and move forward and modernise things which I agree with.

But it wouldn't hurt to hear AWITBF now and again and next week would be an ideal time with it being the Billy memorial.

If there's going to be 70's and 80's memorabilia on show why not play a few tunes from Billy's era too?

For the 40 and upwards supporters who grew up watching Billy Sanders, I'm sure a bit of reminiscing and a blast of walk in the black forest just before the 7.30 parade would be nice.

I always thought they didn't play AWITBF anymore because it was the late John Earrey's "signature" tune.

Saying that, it would be nice to hear it again once more for old times sake!

Totally agree, in a class of his own.

I always remember dancing queen being played a lot, and I hated it being a young lad.

As for John Earrey, what a legend.

When Donc had his farewell a few years ago he had a page quartered with pictures of people that 'should have been there'....John Earrey, Billy, Paul Osbourne and Simon Wigg ......all legends!!

Just how lucky have we been at Ipswich over the years.

Could easily argue that we have had the best ever in all areas - promoter, presenter, rider, trackman, start marshall and of course fans!!

Gotta be Ray Chinnery for start Marshall hasn't it?

I tend to agree with you.

Johnson would maybe be manys selection due to his flambouyance being memorable but I say the mark of the best officials is they do an excellent job without neccessarily being noticed hence my vote with Chinnery

What's happened to some of the regular Ipswich contributors on this forum in recent times?

I know Badge still hovers and posts every now and again but nowhere near enough as she used to, and there are plenty of others.

LW, Ipswich Jules, Bailey's hat, MissingOut/Robyn, Boxer, Broomstick, tomcat, Presenter, even Lovey/Had Enough has disappeared again.

A few only used to post sporadically but a few were regular posters but we haven't heard from any of them in yonks!

Would be interesting to know whether it's a case of losing interest in the sport, losing patience with the forum nowadays or simply being far to busy these days to contribute.

Most importantly, hope you're all still alive and well!

Just read the speedway star, and Phil Hilton says he's already met with Tungate, Heeps and Manzares and spoken on the phone to King and "skipper" Ritchie Hawkins.

So looks like Hawkins retains the captaincy. No real surprise and a sound decision.

I'm not picking fault, but you would have thought he would have spoken to all the riders by now, making sure all their equipment is ready and stuff like that.
