The easiest way to introduce the away team's number 4 before heat 5 is to let him change places with the number 2 in heat 4 with the number 2 riding in heat 5 instead.

The only problem with that idea both the away number 2 rider and number 4 rider would start of the same gate position twice and not start off one of the other 3 gate positions.

There is always something complicated.

The FTD reserves are of a better standard this year, they don't need protecting from heatleaders, no reason not to go back to the format that is still used in the PL and NL.

When you look at the main reserves in each Elite League team starting the forthcoming season there is no reason to make it easier for them as it was last season and they need testing more.

Worrall Auty Kerr Garrity Newman Wright and Blackbird are all six plus riders in the Premier League and need to be facing the likes of Thorssell Morris Stead Watt etc a bit more than fellow reserves and second strings

In last season's format the home number 6 never was never programed to ride against the away number 4. He rode twice against 2 & 6 and 4 times against 7 but never against 4. I think this should be addressed also.

You are correct to call for the better reserve to be pitted more against the opposing 2 & 4.

It's not always possible to achieve, especially when you consider the spacing of programmed rides and the need to share out gate positions.

Let's get rid of fixed gate positions then. Just let the losing team always have first choice of gates. A much fairer and more balanced races format can then be achieved.

As well as trying to sort out the first Away No. 4 ride, wasn't there also a (muted) suggestion from somewhere - just after the AGM(?) - that both reserves would/should have a minimum of 4 rides each?

Or have I dreamt that?

Funny that rule had been suggested now that Poole have a decent number seven

It was certainly suggested on here.
