Scunthorpe Vs Edinbugh ( P L) - Bank Holiday Monday, May 4th (3pm)

BANK HOLIDAY FEAST OF ACTION AT THE EDDIE WRIGHT RACEDAY

FLUIDAIR POWER Scunthorpe Scorpions, supported by Henderson Insurance, stage their first home Premier League fixture of the season against reigning league champions Edinburgh Monarchs at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Bank Holiday Monday (3pm).

There are 30-heats of speedway action on offer in total, with the second half consisting of the Scunthorpe Stags taking on the Halifax Dukes in a National League challenge match, where much of the interest will focus on the return of 2005 Scorpions’ skipper Wayne Carter to action.

The Bank Holiday bonanza of action completes a busy weekend for the Scorpions. The team travel up to Scotland to face Edinburgh on Friday, and then venture to Newcastle on Sunday, for the first leg of their Knockout Cup tie with the Diamonds.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey says: “Bank Holiday Monday is a big day for this club.

“Firstly, we need to get our home Premier League fixtures off to a flying start. That’s not going to be easy to do, because Edinburgh have started the season well, while we’re still finding our feet.

“We will battle and fight all the way on Monday. Every point will count. We need a backs-to-the-wall performance, to take the points, and then our Premier League campaign will kick on from there.”

Godfrey also stresses the importance of a good attendance on Monday.

“The crowds that come to the 12 Premier League meetings at the Eddie Wright Raceway this season, the first one of which takes place on Monday, are the key to the future of this club.

“I was honest with our supporters at the end of last season, and told them the crowds we needed for this year.

“There’s so much I believe we do right. We provide what I believe is the best racetrack in the country. We put on a slick show and don’t hang around.

“We’ve tweaked a few things this year at the request of the fans. For example, when we win at home, the riders are dropped off at the starting gate, so that the supporters have more of a chance to inter-act with them.

“We treat entertainment right at the top of the list. We had quite a few new supporters here this year who had not been to speedway before and from the emails we’ve received since, everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and couldn’t believe what a great night out the speedway is.

“Our hardcore fans are a great bunch, and I would just like to re-iterate to them to keep on spreading the word, because once we entice new supporters along, I’m sure they will love what they see and come back.”

This weekend sees changes in the riding order for the Scorpions, with the issue of the new Green Sheet averages. ‘Mr Entertainment’ Josh Auty, following a strong start to the season, moves to No 1, Nike Lunna shifts up to No 3, Theo Pijper takes over at No 5, and trump-card Alex Davies will drop to No 7.

The Scorpions will again be without David Howe, who is recovering from damaging his shoulder in a workshop accident, and also have an injury doubt in Ellis Perks, who took a hefty fall at Kent on Monday, while representing his National League club, Cradley Heath and damaged his knee ligaments.

Perks will miss the trip to Edinburgh on Friday, with Scunthorpe asset Matt Williamson covering for him. Perks will have a run-out at Buxton on Sunday, and if fit, will take his place at Newcastle on Sunday night.

If he is not fit, then Tom Stokes will guest for him at Newcastle, while Williamson will again be brought in on Monday at No. 6.

Bank Holiday Monday’s adult admission price for the double-header is £17. It’s just £2 more than a single Premier League meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway, for 15 extra heats of action. A full and exciting afternoon of racing is ahead. DON’T MISS IT!

Admission prices for Bank Holiday Monday:

Adult: £17.00

Student/OAP: £15.00

Child (10 – 17): £5.00

Why has Davies been awarded a revised average but not Luna??

it has now been announced that Davies average was wrong & questions need to be answered to know how it happened. It has now been published that Davies has a new average from the 5th May which is 6.35

Lunna has now ridden 4H & 4A so he will have a new average 7 days after his last qualified meeting(Edinburgh away) which will be 3.00 as he has ridden 39 times scoring 28 points.

Davies and Lunna have ridden the exact same meetings so how can they have averages come out at different times? As Davies' won't include Edinburgh away but Lunna does.

Davies is on a 20-match rolling average, while Lunna isn't.

All the best

Rob

Is it perks or Williamson riding?

Not sure as yet, since Buxton is off today.

All the best

but he hasnt got any 2014 matches to add to his 2015 efforts - no different to Lunna.

No 2013 matches are to be included unless they are making up another set of rules again!!

Appears they may well have made up another set of rules!

Talk on other threads of new supplementary regs for those who didnt ride in 2013.

The winter is the time for these decisions not a month into the season.

So again little consistency and even less transparency. In general a poor show.

Wonder if the regs have been forced on them in line with UKIC demands.

seems a bit of a red herring - wouldve thought they were only interested in tge end of season average.

Going with it though if it is considered so important to include 20 meetings where possible that should apply to all (consistency again)

Looking ay Stefan Nielsens average for example that doesnt include 2013 meetings despite only having 11 rides in 2014!!

Some terrific racing at the EWR yesterday.

Fair play to Edinburgh, who were derserving winners. Great to see Alex Davies having such a good meeting... for once, Craig Cook didn't leave with a maximum.

All the best

Alex Davies was absolutely awesome yesterday; hitting the dirt and tearing through to the front. 15 blooming points and top scorer "get in!".

Ok we came unstuck 40-50 but lets be fair Monarchs had three out and out top points men in Cooky; SaM and Wolbert that's race wins. That outside gate worked time and again for who ever was on it mind.

But the racing was great; and not too down about it really we don't come up against the Monarchs every match. Josh, Wilko; Nike and Theo were all in there battling; but with a man down and Matty O coming in to it a bit cold; we were running out of options a bit at the end. Nike's two minute exclusion in Heat 11? think the ref was wrong on that; and Rob was rightly frustrated. But it did not alter the final outcome.

Its not what we need another home reverse; the crowd seemed fairly decent for Bank Holiday Monday; but all must have enjoyed the action served up.

Stags v Dukes NL Challenge had some good racing; Wayne Carter could still do a job in the Conference; or dare I say it PL! in my humble opinion. Very unlucky to cut out; when a second was all the Dukes needed. Nice to see the famous race jacket back on track. David Speight was great to watch; had me worried at one point though hanging off the back of the bike and heading for the airbag turn one!. Great skill to control it and avoid a big bash!.

Enjoyed the afternoon; and ended a great weekend for me; with the Daughter getting married all very memorable. Heads up Scorps and onto Rye House next Saturday. Keep backing the team.

Anyone know how much we raised towards Nike's engine repairs?
